Default DC-10 practice bid

I found it curious that 2 DC-10 S/Os were excessed off to the MD-11 Capt seat. Might have been just a lark,...but what would happen in the unlikely event that these two failed to make the leap from plumber to overpaid, underworked, overly good looking sky god? Other than the obvious transition to "oops, I left my wallet in my room, can you cover the tip for me", would they just get sent to the 727 S/O position or is their job in peril?

I was wondering the same thing. If you fail training you go back to your previous seat and are locked in that seat for 18 months or so. Now, if you fail and your previous seat is non existent what happens?

Unhappy Too big of a leap...maybe

I was teaching in the school house just over 10 years ago when a 747 capt tried and failed to go to the MD11. (56 years old and never been in glass before). He was sent to the DC10 right seat for 24 months and eventually made it thru MD11 school. I would bet the DC10 plumbers will be plumbers on the 727 within the year. They would be MUCH better off if some friend could convince them to go to the right seat for one bid, THEN jump to the left.) There are other factors that may increase their chances of sucess: Maybe they are currently flying the KC10 or C17? On the surface, the jump from panel to "sky god" is a big leap.

Not sure about the current seat of the 10 guys but some may have bid the 10 on the last bid, pushed off training till this excess. They then bid to relieve the excess and get a move package. Not sure of the details. Just speculating..

Hmmmm.....Pull up those guys schedules for the last few months. See anything that would be of concern for making that upgrade?

Talked to one of the guys today who is a 10 S/O whose name came out on the 11 Captain list.

As it turns out he doesn't even have a standing bid in so the system just awarded him the highest thing he could hold. He's been out of town and will be bidding something more appropriate before the bid closes.

That at least explains one of the two. I hope the other guy does the same thing.

tc, what about our new hire classmate. I see he got bumped up to a DC-10 front seat. Gonna be interesting to see what happens to this guy, I have my doubts!
