Here's a gut check:
Are we being realistic in the interview process in describing the problems one might face commuting to the ANC domicile. Does HR ever hear ANYONE say they wouldn't accept a position in ANC?

If an interviewee HONESTLY expressed reservations about the ANC domicile, does that automatically exclude him from consideration for other slots?

Do the folks in HR even have a clue on what the ANC lines look like, and the difficulties we're having with the moves, health care providers (there are NONE for option one health care), etc?

Why did UPS stop providing the leather jacket to new hires?

Because when over 60 guys are bumping the junior captains to the right seat, you and I will be getting bumped to the panel.

I agree with fr8capt,

How does HR verify that new hires indeed intend to move to ANC? Does it matter to HR if they move or not? It seems like it would be the kiss of death to say something along the lines of this, even though it might be 100% honest: "well, i'll take ANC because I want the job with UPS but as soon as I can I'm bidding another domicile. In fact, I'm going to rank ANC at the bottom of my list once I get into training."

Perhaps they'll ask something like how much a gallon of milk costs in ANC to see if we've researched what living in AK would be like. ($3.95 last May, according to: http://www.city-data.com/forum/other...ost-today.html

can any locals verify this?)

It's already been said they will not be able to displace back to the left seat. The over 60 guys have to wait and bid openings. I think the roof is getting to you.

I ranked honestly in an APR 07 Interview and was in the Jun 07 class. ANC understood d2 my background, thankful for the opportunity at UPS, but also ANC last on the ranking. I got ANC, as I understood I would. So, for Tripled, I am either an exception or they understand reality and appreciate honesty.

I think the latter.

Could you ask them about whether it is better or higher ranking to have a recommendation from someone you've flown with or is it weighted the same as one from someone you haven't flown with?

FD, see the can of worms you opened.

Yeah why did they stop buying jackets for the new hires???

Why did some classes get the 1500 dollars for moving up to ANC and a three year seat lock and others recieved it for not moving to ANC but for a three year seat lock only.

FD, Appreciate it.

Please ask them what the purpose of their hiring pool is. Why make guys and gals wait for years before a class date? Either they are good enough to be hired asap or they are not. Why make someone wait in the pool for 2 years and then hire them? Do they understand what keeping a person in that limbo does to a person? Why don't they add a point to a poolies score every month just to keep them from drowning or some other method? This makes newhires mad at the company before they even show up for day one. IMO this toxic brown pool needs shocked with chlorine!

FD,
I would like to know if it matters at all what window you put your app in. i.e are they drawing from the Jan, then the Apr window, then the Aug window, or is that just that many more names in the hat? Seems a lil crazy to me.

Thanks,
Moondog
