Hey FD,

read a lot of good questions here that cover what I wanted to know also, does everyone get PM'ed. It seems that it might be better to post some of the answers in the thread, so we can all read it.

Anyway, thanks a lot for taking questions. I just had 3 right now,

1. Cover letter on the resume yes or no?
2. .3 mil conversion on the oploaded resume?
3. Wwhen is the window closing?

I don't think I have PM privileges yet. Working on it, but refuse to write 25 bogus posts.

Wow, 2 years and counting – that really sucks but I truly hope you get the call very soon. If you have a sponsor I’d ask him or her to go to a job fair with you. Once there, I’d even ask if they think you might be better off re-applying and re-interviewing in hopes of “scoring” higher this time around?

For whatever reason, your score isn’t where they want it to be before they call you with a job offer; could be something on your record, could be something you did, or didn’t do during the sim eval, or the HR interview. Who knows?

The point is, after two years I’d definitely get my sponsor involved a little more into this! Something just isn’t right, especially with the type of flying you do – which is what they are looking for.

If you do go to another job fair, wait until the very end of the seminar so you’re one of the last guys/gals there. This way you’ll have more time to talk to them and there won’t be any pressure to speed it up because of the hopefuls in line behind you.

a2b – did you use any sim and/or HR prep before your interview? If so, try to contact the same person and maybe “recreate” your interview and look for any possible errors you made. Do you have a college degree? Are there any blemishes on your record? Do you have numerous speeding violations? Sorry to be putting you on the spot like that and I don’t really expect you to answer any of those questions here but rather to look into it because for someone who’s flying heavies out of ANC (I think that’s what you’re doing, correct?) you should be their “wet dream”.
I really hope things will work out for you and that you’ll be getting a pee test call very soon.

Good luck to you!

Yeah, I think this question was asked earlier (about 6 pages ago). Can anyone think of any OTHER questions regarding the FE written? Seems like every 2 months or so the very same question is being asked over and over again. Let’s kill all the FE written questions once and for all! FD, please?!

From a few pages ago:

...Here are some FE Written related questions:

- Will an FE written that’s more than 2-years old but kept current through the “part 121 rule” work or does it have to be less than two years old? (in other words I was (and still am) at airline “X” when I took my FE written and now, three years later UPS calls me for an interview – is my FE written still good?)

- If the “121 carrier” exemption is acceptable does it mean you must still be working for the same airline you were at when the FE written was taken or just ANY part 121 airline? (let’s say I was at airline “X” when I took the test and 3 years later switched to airline “Y” when all of sudden UPS calls me for an interview – is my 3 year old FE written still good?)

- If you switched airlines, how long time-frame between the jobs will be accepted? (In other words if it took one week form resigning from one airline job to starting at another – is my FE written still current?)

- More importantly, if UPS does accept an FE written that is more than 2-years old, are the applicants “look down upon” because they didn’t want to spend the extra $100 or is it totally irrelevant.

- What about the rumor you must have at least 95% (I had 103%! ) on the test or you might be turned down?

- Does the score really matter or is OK as long as it’s above the FAA 70%?

I know some of those seem like pretty silly questions but I’ve talked to several regional captains making 30-35K a year struggling to pay their bills who ended up retaking their FE written exam just to go from 95 to 98% because they were told it would improve their chances. I think it’s insane but people will do whatever takes to increase their chances.

Or how about people like me who ended up retaking the FE written every two years because we were told that UPS didn’t really want to see FE written tests that were more than 2 years old. I waited 8 years to get hired and yes I did take it 4 times! Maybe by knowing the real truth, some guys/gals behind me can save some money here?

I would like to hear the answers from the HR not other pilots...enough of blind leading blind already...

I have been applying for the last 3 years (every time the window is open) and was wondering what makes someone competitive (without the transoceanic crossings)? I have a bunch of hours, a couple of type ratings, am a checkairman, and no call. I know that if I had a flown with recomendation that would help, but out of the 4 airlines I have worked for none of those guys that I have flown with work at UPS... Any hope for me?

Just so you know I did go with my sponsor, also was their with the chief pilot. I have no speeding tickets, faa backround is clean as well as did a full backround check(same company ups uses) just to see if anything came up. I'm clean. I am an ERAU alum. I do know that my sim was fine. If there is a grey area-My interview was ok but if I was so bad then why didn't I get a no thanks letter. I do know that I answered the truth to all my questions. I believe that some of the responses were probably a bit off but I also know that I have had numerous people inquire on my behalf and that it is bothersome to the HR people who will remain nameless. So there you have it. I do fly heavies in and out of anc to asia as well as the U.S. I've always thought that there would be a place in a class in time and that the job would be there. Its just taking longer and I know that there were others in the pool back in the 90's that went longer. Also, I have been in touch with 2 other guys who have been in the pool just as long. We can't figure it out either so rather than keep going on and on I let those ups'ers know i'm still here and can you a least keep my name alive. I still won't give up and in the end there is a reason as to why this has gone on this way. Until then I'll frolic in the pool, let HR know I'm still interested and available. Beer is still cold at humpy's or F street. there you have it.
Fly safe.
Regards,
A2B

…I am an ERAU alum. I do know that my sim was fine…

Oh, I see you went to Erau and no one from Erau ever struggles in the sim, huh? Puhleese, there’s your problem; the Erau alumni quote is filled for the next 25 years! (I’m kiddin’ of course and I hope so were you, not sure what your previous education had to do with your sim. performance).

I'm just giving you hard time, I know you meant to say you had a college degree. I enjoy picking on Erau graduates (and Purdue, and...)

…If there is a grey area-My interview was ok but if I was so bad then why didn't I get a no thanks letter…

- Well, because there are really 3 kinds of “scores” - Yes, -No and –Something-in-Between.

- I wonder if it’s possible to apply again and re-interview in order to improve ones “score”? I mean, will the application even let you?

...I still won't give up and in the end there is a reason as to why this has gone on this way. Until then I'll frolic in the pool, let HR know I'm still interested and available. Beer is still cold at humpy's or F street. there you have it...

You shouldn’t give up and I’m sure it WILL happen, hopefully sooner rather than later. I was just trying to figure out of there’s a way to “improve” a score by for example re-applying and then re-interviewing? or maybe getting another type rating? I don't know, hopefully FD can find that out for us...

Take care and hang in there…

The ERAU comment was in a long list of qualifications. Just the list. He wasn't bragging about not having a speeding ticket, just saying these are the facts.

Thanks for the feedback. I can only answer that I asked about reinterviewing and was told that once you are in the pool there is no need to let HR know that even if I became an astronaut(not the crazy depends wearing type unless it helps for a classdate) they don't care if it makes me even more qualified or no need to reapply, re-interview etc.. The response is always the same. Thank you for your interest in UPS, we review the pool to meet the needs of the company. If I check the online app I am active and can only revise the personel contact info. I tell you this so that others are aware that there are some long term poolies that as far as I can tell are in the same position. Again, I really don't have much to complain about since I know so many others would love to have been able to say they're in the pool. Its great to be able to go to a forum and exchange info, banter, and gossip. Its just a very grey area for the long termers. I figure that is all the facts enough said. Until I go brown. See ya in anc having cold ones for now since can't do much fishing but skiing's happening soon. Oh yeah so is winter ops, fun stuff.

Correct, and I also said: "I'm just giving you hard time, I know you meant to say you had a college degree. I enjoy picking on Erau graduates (and Purdue, and...)"

Not sure if this willl make you feel any better but it took me 8+ years just to get the interview. Fortunately for me, once I interviewed things happened really fast, but I still think it was pure “luck” more than anything else. Fortunately, I didn’t have to prove my prowess in marathon swimming because I’d have drowned by now.

I kept going to different job fairs and kept updating my information; my sponsors kept checking up on my status – I guess they finally got tired of my persistence and decided to give me a shot. I hope the same will happen to you very soon.
