Here's the new UPS bid

I agree. We have many crewmembers, that at best, just don't care or at worst, look for ways to screw the company over.

Nope. Just all those senior whale guys coming over to the MD-11 and pushing you down in seniority in your seat.
You might not see too much hiring as UPS not only has to absorb the 747 crews, but will also has to absorb the much larger DC-8 crew force into other fleets.
I foresee LOTS of probies and other junior pilots on non-ANC fleets getting involuntarily displaced to ANC.

BrownClown,
Check your PMs. You have received two infractions today for inappropriate language. Both posts have been deleted. Throwing insults around and name-calling is not tolerated here. If you cannot follow our TOS, please don't post. It's really that simple.

The only part that ticks me off is this, they hire me into another a/c just 4 months ago. Now you are telling me that seat is way overstaffed and I will go to a different airplane. There seems like a way to save 200M bucks. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about my job. I know this isn't forever, I am a big picture guy and I will take it all in stride. Just makes you wonder who the heck is running this thing.

Unfortunately, common here at Uncle Brown. They often react and have difficult time being truly proactive in this arena. The decision to draw down the 8 crews was likely a last minute decision made 10 minutes before the announcement to meet the seat requirements on the -400. The lousy deal is that alot of folks are going to be in ANC that do not want to be in ANC. I had a classmate just go from ANC CPT MD to CPT 74-4 hoping for a better schedule. Ugh.
Would not put ANC anywhere on your bid list if you don't want it. If they see it anywhere on your list, they will move you to the front of the line. <ng>
You may be able to bump along in SDF, hope to fly with you sometime (sitting A)

Asking for single engine taxi's etc. Turn the packs down on the 8 to save 100 pounds of kerosene for the flight. Don't turn on APU's, etc. Sounds good, and 99% of the pilots take pride in being able to save 120 pounds, then we are filed to fly at FL260 from SDF-ONT at .84. So while the headshed is asking me as a Capt to save the 100 pounds on pack operation, our fuel burn for the 1556 mile trip at FL260 burns an extra 12,000 pounds of kerosene. Do you appreciate the disconnect? I would have to fly 120 trips of skimping pack ops to make up the wasted fuel from their poor paperwork and execution management of RVSM on the 8. On the way back the next night. Repeat. So in one week of flying we have blown wastefully 72,000 pounds of fuel. After that, seems silly to care if I can save 100 pounds here and 25 pounds there. Poor management wasted more than I can possibly save in 10 careers at UPS. So don't be surprised a fellow line slug who appears not to care. They often do, but they have finally realized the general sense of futility, so they quit beating their head into the concrete to cope with the disconnect.
I don't agree with looking for ways to "screw the company over", but that truly is a minority. Often though, the company rules "screw the company". Ironically, many crews facilitate a better solution. However, some choose to simply fly by all the company rules and it appears to "screw the company". Fast example. When LIDO first unveiled, it was goofy on alot of routes, It actually was perplexing to the crews and ATC. Several offered recommendations, and the company encouraged input, but also sternly stated we were to fly "LIDO". So if it was not very efficient and more costly and a crew could do better, they were instructed to fly "LIDO". Just another example of UPS wanting crews to ignore some of their skills they had to offer their employer. After several iterations, one relents to the disconnect.
