I don't know that its any kinder or more gentle, but Mempho is much bigger and therefor easier for them to hide. You just don't stand as good a chance of running into one of them in the AOC because there are so many of us in there.

The year I was based in ANC, very few guys flew DP. Those that did, were talked to. Memphis is a kinder, gentler, place. The corporate culture there is, and has always been, (in my opinion) to "live and let live", and it's in part due to this phenomenon, that guys who continue to fly these DP's, do so with impunity.

Why are they flown? One pilots disputed pairing is another pilots ability to be home for his anniversary, his kids championship game or whatever. Why are there so many disputed pairings anyway? Did we screw up the scheduling/work rules sections of the contract that bad? I think there should be no DPs at all. Either a trip is legal and compliant with the CBA or it's not. If its not, it should not be in the bidpack. If it is simply a difficult trip on the body, well that is what we do.
While we ***** and moan about the individual trees that are DPs, the forest is burning down around us. Sorry, thinking out loud again.

DPs are just the first step. I constantly hear "if you don't like it, then volunteer at the Union to fix it." This is my way to volunteer for the Union. Bottom line is the DPs are not a secret. People picking them up are on their own agenda and you're not going to get any sympathy from me. Get home for a birthday or anniversary--give me a break! Drop the trip or work a different day.

Just check out the calendar of this Capt on this disputed pairing. The guy works every week.

May I remind you that the CBA also contains the disputed pairing "process". Yes we did vote these work rules in but part of the CBA is the SIG and PSIT. To say we must live with these pairings because they comply with the CBA and FARs is only part of the story. The "dispute process" also complies with the CBA that "we" voted in. The process doesn't work well when we have independent contractors trying to enhance their bottom line.
