Okay, I'll take the hit on the spelling. Still stand by the intent of my post.

So now that we have an agency shop, and everyone pays regardless of union persuasion, is there still a stigma attached with being a non-member?

I've read malacious barbs hurled at non-members in the past, and I assumed it was because of the free-ride. Now if someone quits, they must continue to pay, so it really must be due to an ideological difference instead of a thrift-olgical one. Hmmm??

Problem is, spineless FDX MEC and ALPA National decided that they would grandfather all of the non members at the time the contract was amended. They were afraid to change to conditions of employment for the 200 or so non members. Didn't mind changing the conditions of employment though for the 4500 other employees who were members. Does anybody see the logic (lack there of actually) in that line of thinking?

So no, I don't think the stigma of being a non member has changed much at all. It mostly still the same 200 or so guys who, for whatever reason, have chosen to not belong to the union. Some have quit since the contract, but I doubt they go around trying to differentiate themselves from those who weren't members before.

P.S. Which is worse, misspelling a few words while typing, or using the wrong words all together. Hmm!
Where you on of those that was yelling and screamimg prior to this contract about the non members getting a free ride? Now you want to do away with agency shop so you can quit?

You can quit right now, you just have to keep paying! The problem with not having agency shop is that every person has some item they do not like in the contract. Therefore without AS everyone would be "one item" quiters and we would be left to the benevolence of management.

Agency Shop requires all to help with the contract administration and negotiations costs. If your not happy get involved. Make changes and come up with new options. I haven't seen any new options expressed by you just complaining.

The choice is yours- Get involved or continue to sound lke a 2 yr old whose mommy will not let him have a piece of candy.

Bohica,

As of 01/05/08 there are 101 nonmembers not on dues check off. That number is slowly getting smaller. 14 nonmembers on Dues Check Off and 5 nonmembers subject to Agency Shop.

All in All with over 4500 pilots we only have 101 that don't contribute.

Not to bad..

Like we're not already?

ALPA member, FPA member, non-member, or 2 yr old; I will still pay a 2% employment privilege tax to someone. What's the diff? It's only 2% right?

I guess I don't get the constant "whine" over paying union dues. Do you think without a union, whether in house or ALPA, you would be 2% richer?? Do you think the people negotiating/enforcing our contract on your behalf should do it all for free?? Lots of pilots do volunteer their time, would you like to spend the time it takes to deal with the company and your fellow pilots, doing so all on your own time, without any compensation from the (group) that will directly benefit from your efforts??

Fine, you don't think the union is representing your interests, fair enough, let them (your LEC reps) know what you think or better yet, run yourself. If you think we would be better off without union representation you need to sober up, read some history about airline unionism is general and FedEx in particular.

2% tax, my @ss, that's the best 2% "tax" you'll pay this year and next, until you retire! Not all of us are happy about age 65 or the bid or even the LOA. But try to think how things would be if no one was representing our interests.
