I didn't want to start a firefight, I was just curious if a reserve pilot qualified for the block over 8 bonus. As it turns out, the extra hours just go towards leveling. Yet another fine example of a substandard contract!!

I'd be glad to......I just can't figure out how to post the actual spreadsheet with the calculation formulas, etc. that are imbedded (like an attachment to an email??)

If anyone knows how to do that, please either post the method here, or PM me.

In the mean time, I'll work on figuring out a way to boil it down to a text version - because the method crew pay uses is really what it all boils down to. That'll just take me a little time to break that all out of the spreadsheet (caveman.)

I'm hanging on to it for future ref. as it seems to be the exact way that the company is calculating the pay for the trips (and correctly in accordance with the contract as far as I can tell - believe it or not )

give me a little time, and I'll see what I can come up with.

here's an email i got from the union breaking down how i got paid for the trip that started this thread. Keep in mind that hard time trips do not get any BKO, it has to be a TAFB trip. So you may be flying 9 hours to VCP or STN and back, but you are not always getting any over 8 BKO. Trip guarantee is determined when he is awarded or assigned (whichever is greater) (4.F.).
Trip guarantee in this instance was 50:08
trip rig (16518/3.75=44.05)
plus scheduled block hours over 10; he had two duty periods scheduled over 10
i. the first duty period 1343 (3:43)

ii. the last duty period 1220 (2:20)

His ACH was measured here by trip rig flown plus actual block over 8 (section 2.6) (53:30)
Trip rig flown (164451/3.75=43:58)
Actual block over 8 (9:32)
i. the first duty period 1330 (5:30)

ii. the last duty period 1202 (4:02)

Block Override is additional to trip guarantee (4.FF.). It is measured by OSC-SCH.
OSC (Section 2.58) here is Trip rig as scheduled (44:05) plus actual block hours over 8 in any duty period (9:32) =53:37
53:37 -50:08= 3:29

Default The 3-page spreadsheet...

Sorry I took so long to put this together.....

Here's the basics of what Crew Pay sent me to explain the Block Hours Over 8 pay question:

Too large for one post, so I split it up.

The first little bit is some definitions and quoting of the applicable contract sections
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
BKO 4.FF.
OSC Definition 58 in Section 2
ACH Definition 6 a & b in Section 2 of the Contract
SCH 4.F.1.a.b.
OVERAGE 4.BB.5.a.&b. : " If a trip's ACH exceed OSC or the trip is
operationally extended past its original scheduled return time, a pilot
shall earn overage CH computed as the higher of:
a. ACH minus the sum of OSC for the trip and SCH of any subsequent
trip(s) removed with pay due to actual conflict; or
b. trip rig computed for the time the extended trip conflicts with
time the pilot was scheduled to be free from duty at base, if such time
exceeds 2 hours.

continued...

Default part 2...

So, here's the basic computations:

ACH (Actual - AFTER block in at the end of a trip) = the greater of:
1. Trip Rig (as flown) + ACTUAL revenue block over 8
OR....
2. sum of ACH for each duty period (Duty Rig) - as actually flown

The greater of those two = ACH

SCH (scheduled trip guarantee portion of trip) = the greater of:
1. Trip Rig (as scheduled) + scheduled revenue block hours over 10
OR....
2. Sum of duty periods (or Scheduled Duty Period pay)

The greater of those two is SCH

OSC (Override Scheduled Credit) = the greater of:
1. Trip Rig (as scheduled) + Actual revenue block hours over 8
OR....
2. Sum of the scheduled credit hour value of the Duty Periods

The greater of those two is OSC.

Default Finally....the Overage....and BKO

Overage is calculated using ACH, SCH, OSC
if your trip returns to base AFTER the scheduled return time, then OVERAGE is based on the greater of:

1. ACH minus OSC

OR....

2. New/Actual Trip Rig

The greater of those two is OVERAGE pay

(This will be paid in addition to trip guarantee)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Finally - BKO (Block Override)

BKO = OSC minus SCH

(This will be paid in addition to trip guarantee)

*** and THIS (BKO) is where you'll see the block over 8 (but not the block over 10) if it wasn't figured in to the original Trip Guarantee (SCH)***

Default Hosed in M/U Status?

I flew trip XXX in make-up status. It was paid as a TAFB trip with 2 legs over 8 hrs but less than 10 hrs. Schedule Credit Hour (SCH) of the trip was 31:32 hrs with an actual block of 34:27 hrs. Block Override (BKO) for the 2 legs equaled 2:55.

Capt (line holder) get 2:55 hrs BKO over trip SCH. Me (in make-up status) get his make-up bank reduced by 2:55 hrs. What gives?

I feel that CBA 4.FF Block Override (BKO) , authorizes 2:55 hrs of BKO instead of a 2:55 reduction from my Make-Up Bank regardless of being in make-up status or not. Called crew pay and crew scheduling and got the company line. Called union an got a vague response and an email requesting more details. Any thoughts out there?

Maybe it was one of our workrule enhancements from the new and "improved" contract????

Looks right to me.

"BKO shall be paid in the same form (e.g., credited toward RLG for reserve trips, credited toward MUS for MUS trips, cash for TRP), at the same pay rate, as trip guarantee".

I would assume any make up (MUD, etc) would be the same as MUS, you get "paid" in more makeup, not extra cash.

I certainly could be wrong.
