IPA website not updated in a long time. What is the latest rumor? To not have any news about it after this long is strange. What is IPA position on a pilot who refuses to pay any dues until a new contract is in place? Or at least a TA.

Most organized pilot groups have a contractual "agency shop" clause that mandates that the pilots on the list are required to pay dues. They don't have to be members of the union, but they do pay dues....so why wouldn't you be a member?
Also, remember contracts under the railway labor act don't expire, they are amended. The old contract remains in force, so when a UPS pilot says "they don't have a contract", they really mean a new amended contract. The pay, work rules, and the requirement to pays union dues remains in effect until amended.

I think that when our Teamster brethren on the ground side come up for contract negotiations this summer, we will get our contract signed at the same time that Hoffa gets a new contract for his boys.

With the current laws in KY, you can't refuse to join the union or pay dues. They will start on your first pay check out of probation. The ground contract doesn't come up for another year, but I do think the contract will have to get settled this summer, UPS has plans. The new KY gov. is trying to change the laws. I think by the time you get out of probation, you will want to join the union, or management.

the dues of any union memeber pays ( among other things) for the lawyes and negotiators( flight loss pay) that are working hard to get you the contact , will pay for the strike preperedness commitee, and will ensure you "old" contract and future new contract is upheld.
if you were allowed not to pay dues untill the contract is settled you would be doing management a wonderful favor . besides, will you then be willing to pay back the dues owed over a 2-3-or even 4 year period with interst?
a union works for the good of the pilot group , not just for your own good, and your dues are being put to good use at the IPA,ALPA,APA or any other, wheter you see inmediate results or not.
volunteer at any of your union commitees and see for yourself.
