That's true Albie, but we are having some items put into a new side letter that weren't there when these positions were bid. I guess the fair thing to do would be to cancel Hong Kong, negotiate another LOA and reopen the bid.

I'd say the crew force got took. How much did A-380 pay rates cost us? Whoops no A-380. Lets get tax equalization because we all know you can't live in Paris and pay french taxes (even with a sizeable housing stipend). Whoops no paris.

Maybe someone on the MEC could ask for projected tax figures in HKG with and without equalization. It is never to late to find the truth. Don't think of it as another chance for some of us to say I Told You So; think of it as membership education. If it is too late to do anything now we can always use it as a starting point for 2010.

Attention all HKG bidders - DON'T SIGN THE LETTER!!

This would, in effect, be the PILOTS taking control of their own futures (for a change) - "cancelling" the HKG bid and forcing the company/union to do what you're suggesting - scrap both FDAs and the LOA and start over.

Especially since the "economic picture" and everything else in the world has changed significantly since the FDA/LOA was initially negotiated and then folks bid HKG and CDG.

Why should the company be the only ones who can decide which bids get cancelled and which don't???

Well Prez,

What do you say to the guy who lives in Guangzhou where the ChiCom taxes are astronomical?

Certainly now a case could be made for revisiting the LOA yet again due to CDG being cancelled, and certainly equalization is one of the first subjects on which to focus.

In that regard we should not seek to have equalization simply removed. Our goal should be to have Tax Protection in place of Tax Equalization--big difference and it's what should have been negotiated in the first place.

Incidently, I doubt you'd get the guys on the company side of the table to agree to it being a "no-cost" item, but that doesn't mean there isn't a case to now change it to protection.

BrownGirls,

You, Sir, are right on the mark. Albie, take note. Prez, pay attention. Nice issue to bring forward, but don't bet on it happening.

Good point. I like Browngirls thinking. Get tax protection and you can live where you want.

Get the company to commit to building double deadheads out of Hong Kong and don't live in Guangzhou.

I don't think tax protection is going to happen. I do think that getting rid of the tax equalization is possible. That may limit pilots to Hong Kong rather than Guangzhou.

Sanvidge has said that if he had his way he'd at a minimum build front end deadheads. Who knows what power he'll have...

And what do you say to the guy who would have bid LAX on 06-02 knowing age 65 was going to be a factor and the next award he received would be cancelled?

And what do you say to the guy who would have bid HKG knowing CDG wasn't going to be a factor?

And what do you say to the guy who bid HKG CAP who could have been paid WB CAP passover pay and living it up in ANC at 40% F/O because he didn't know age 65 was going to be a factor?

What do you say to the guy who bought FedEx stock at $117 who didn't know the falling dollar and oil prices were going to be a factor?

Pretty handy thing, that hindsight.
