Agreeing with me ain't gonna get you too far since I don't know what I'm talking about - hence the ? at the end of my sentence.

I was wondering if that's how it's done.

Maybe if I ask it like this. If this bid were to result in an excess off the bottom of the MD-11 MEM F/Os - would that be reflected in the final bid results?
Or - would those who would be excessed receive some kind of notification after the bid closed that they're toast in their current seat and await another bid to sort that issue out?

I just don't know how the process works - maybe someone can clue me in when they get a chance.

Thanks.

If you currently occupy a seat that is not being excessed on this bid (ie: MD-11 FO) you are safe.

For now.

Until there is an excess bid in your seat you can't be displaced.

If, after the real bid closes, the company determines that the are too fat in any seats they will have to put out another excess posting. By the time all those people get through training and the 10s are all gone there will likely be another bid, and hopefully it will include seats for the 777. That will solve any short term excesses that occur after this bid (again, hopefully).

More than that! Looks like 8 new Captains in HKG. At least that's what the award page indicates. However, the percentile page now indicates 62 total Captains in HKG.

The contract says an excess bid cannot create an excess in an FDA. I'm guessing most of the guys excessed to HKG will not be awarded HKG unless there is some serious back door extra contractual LOA manipulation. They can get passover pay if they cannot hold the same paying seat domestically.

Albie, I thought the same thing before I signed up for the ANC commute. There are upsides, but the skeds don't usually work out the way you plan.

Personally, I'd clean your stalls with a toothbrush before I did the HKG commute.

PS: Local mod to an old one:

Q: "What are the 3 most useless things in Aviation?
A: "Runway behind you, altitude above you, and 3 days in ANC between trips."

I can get a lot done in 3 days between trips...I just choose not to sometimes..."never done doing nothing"

I believe it's only an excess if the company calls it an excess. They have sent letters to several folks who had their CDG "awards" cancelled. Those letters stated they would be placed in HKG. I believe it was because they had HKG Captain listed, albeit lower than CDG Captain, on the previous bid. In the letter sent to them, they were discouraged from taking HKG in hopes of receiving passover pay. They were told they will go to HKG, if they select it. Yes, perhaps to scare them off, since the LOA sucks!...but I digress. In any case, the HKG awards don't show these individuals, but they are on the percentile page.

Looks like Cargo has taken contract 101. There are a lot of folks eligible to do the same thing.

Unless the company decides that adding "x" number of pilots to HKG is ok, thus not creating an excess.

It has never been more important to bid what you want to fly than it is right now.
