All I can say is that I'm in a depressed mood over all of this. I came here because it was one of the most stable places in the world. Now being in the bottom 50 of the company, looks like I'll be kicking a can in the streets for some time.
Horrible news, the good thing is that the over 60 guys can continue to work in order to get an extra 5K a year in retirement. Like that's needed after 25+ years with an A and B fund, plus 401K.

When you are on Wife 3.0 with multiple kids from 1.0 and 2.0 and the brand new house isn't paid off yet, what are you supposed to do? Gotta work baby! Gotta live the dream! (Are you feeling the sarcasm here folks?)

In Jan, after the age 65 thing passed, I was talking to my ACP. He was talking about an Airbus Capt who had turned 61 the previous month. This guy is VERY senior and when he turned 60, he didn't retire or go to the back seat but took a leave of absence instead. So...no pay and no pension but not to worry, he had a gig in LA flying the rich and famous around on a Gulfstream. He called the ACP and said he was coming back, and when the ACP asked why?. He said that although he really liked his corporate job, and that job, plus his retirement check would equal what he would make when he came back, he missed the comradeship in the crewroom (I'm not joking). The question is, with guys having buds, with wives and young children, on the street, what kind of social behavior can the retreads expect? Anybody going to do any male bonding with these guys out of the cockpit, even if they say they'll buy the beer? Do any of these guys care? Even one? How about FH, he must care, right? Pretty amazing group......and yes, Kronan, we can blame DW for this.

BLG reduction, furlough, 777 Bid and excess bid in that order, all done by the end of Aug. My prediction based on no facts but common sense. Recall furloughed pilots and offer them China. Move right down the list until they fill it.

F2S,
I agree completely. Any shortage in seats will simply be filled by the usual vacuum cleaners sucking up all the open time. Come back to HK or don't have a job. Meanwhile, senior dudes can keep getting their high five. The only question is: How many will be filling out unemployment claims? My guess: 400-500.

I'm only an amateur bean counter but the biggest number I heard is that we are about 300 pilots fat. For arguement sake say we were 1000 pilots fat. 1000 pilots * 68 BLG = 68000 hours a month. Spread this over the entire crew force of 4766 pilots, 68000/4766=14.26 hours. Meaning if we were 1000 pilots fat the BLG would be reduced from 68 to 53 (68-14.26). Even with this gross exageration of excess pilots and crazy rounding I don't see FedEx pilots hitting the streets. However, I'm just a novice bean counter and the sky may actually be falling.
