Who cares? ...and more importantly, what are you guys smoking? You guys are lucky you have someone who left "early."
I wish and pray that everyone of our over 60 guys here at Big Brown were to quit and then reapply to Delta, AA, China Southern, Air Bangladesh or the airline of their choice. That would be AWESOME!!!
Personally I think the guys/gals who’ll do that will live longer and they’ll be happier because of more sun light which affects their grumpy old brains. Also, they’ll look more rested and will feel better when they get more regular schedules over their at pax carriers.
I say GO FOR IT!
FEDELTA you are my HERO! FEDELTA for PREZ!

It's been a long time since I've actually followed all the goings on here at APC, and even longer since I last posted. Things have been quite nice for me and I attribute part of that to my lack of participation here. I just returned from two weeks in England, where I spent each day at Wimbledon, watching the tennis matches. What a finish! The Nadal/Federer match was of course, the highlight of what otherwise was a fantastic two weeks. And to see Bjorn Borg and other legends of the sport, up close and personal, was just amazing. It seems that those who are playing now have not forgotten those who came before them, and the admiration shown to these "old timers" is amazing. Perhaps it's because these tennis professionals recognize that if not for the guys who came before them, their own accomplishments and indeed, their livelihood would not be what it is today. Regardless, it was an amazing tournament and I'm glad that I invested both the time and money in being a part of it.
So the other day, when I got back home and did some catching up on things, I logged on and started the tedious task of reviewing all that I'd missed in these past few weeks. Of course, one of the first threads that I read was the "FDX-open letter to age 60+", in which one of our over 60 guys had retired from FedEx and gotten a job with Delta. I thought that was very cool, for a number of reasons. The first and foremost reason was that (for those of you who have not had the opportunity, or did not avail yourself of a captain upgrade), the very decision to go from a left seat to any other seat is a truly mind altering decision. That plus the fact that this guy was stepping away from a very senior lifestyle, ie: days off; choice of vacation dates and training dates; choice of trips; and of course a ton of money, had in my mind, made this guy a very unique individual indeed. As well, he was asking other older guys to consider doing the same thing as he did, and step away from their jobs, so that the younger guys could advance more quickly. All in all, a very unique individual, one who chose to move from the comfort of a work environment he'd known for over two decades, to one where he was not only totally unfamiliar, but one where he'd be at the bottom of the barrel, with none of the perks he'd enjoyed at FedEx.
Then of course some of you guys had to go and ruin it for him, what with your snide and caustic comments. What I've taken away from this thread, even though I sort of knew it for quite some time, is that there are some of you who feel that the older/senior guys have no place in "your airline", and not only that, you actually feel that they don't even deserve the opportunity to continue working in ANY capacity. Unlike the uneducated (most don't have a college degree, and some don't even have a high school diploma) tennis players, you bunch of highly motivated, highly (or so you probably tell yourself) educated "professionals" not only don't show any respect for those who came before you, but you go as far as to wish them all a quick departure, not only from the job, but, it seems, from life. And so I ask you, why would anyone who had the opportunity to work an additional 5 years, especially considering the increasing cost of everything, leave, just to satisfy a group like you? For those of you who feel that way, you are an embarrassment, not only to the airline industry, but to the human race, and I'm embarrassed to have the same ID card as yours. For those of you who professed an admiration of FedElta, I celebrate your humanity.

JJ,and others,
Thank you for the kind words and understanding......I was a bit surprised to be castigated for trying to " do the right thing". I appear to have become a square peg in a round hole, so......fair seas and following winds to all.
Best regards,
B

FedElta,
I totally support your making the move to Delta. I think it was a class thing to do for your fellow fedex pilot. I also don't get the guys who are bashing on you for competing for a job on the open market. You paid your money and took your chances. Your experience has value just as there are places where youth has a value. Best of Luck.

I agree 100%, but he didn't do it for US or any other lofty reason. He had to or start flipping switches. If the rule had changed before he turned 60 he'd still be here. That was my only point. I'm glad he is having fun and enjoying a cool retirement job.
I wonder how he like wearing a hat?

Magnum and R1200RT,
I understand your points, regardless of how insignificant they might be. The fact is he left the property at a time when it was a benefit to everyone junior to him, and as well, he thought enough of this crew force (god only knows why) to write a post encouraging other older/senior guys to leave as soon as possible, as well. Why must you guys always look for some dark cloud in an otherwise brilliant sky? Instead you might just say "Thanks", and let it go at that.
