FDX-open letter to age 60+

It is disheartening to see a lot of these guys miss the point of FEDELTA's Post.
Taking up a slot at Delta and "taking advantage of the 65 rule" is a ludicrous accusation. I think his point was the 60+ guys all have their own personal reasons for continuing to work, which are their private, personal reasons.
I am also glad that if a judge did rule that he and other 60+ guys could return to their former position, he would not do this.
If he was interviewed and accepted in one of the more difficult interviews, he deserves the job, no matter his financial standings. Since when are the RJ guys entitled to this position?
He could have always stayed in the backseat flipping switches, and now he would have a left seat bid.

Magnum and R1200RT,
I understand your points, regardless of how insignificant they might be. The fact is he left the property at a time when it was a benefit to everyone junior to him, and as well, he thought enough of this crew force (god only knows why) to write a post encouraging other older/senior guys to leave as soon as possible, as well. Why must you guys always look for some dark cloud in an otherwise brilliant sky? Instead you might just say "Thanks", and let it go at that.

My point was and is that he must be smoking something to be able to tell anyone at FedEx that life as a junior FO anywhere (including FedEx) was better than being a senior Captain at FedEx. And, it's been true for years pre and post 9-11 and the current fuel debacle. Being senior at FedEx has always been the best vacationing job on the planet. Most if the 4 and 5 day layovers have gone, but this nuby at Delta was here and senior when he could have been taking his wife around the world on Fred's dime.
Small point I know just playing around on APC.

The part I like the most was when Fedelta said that IF there are furloughs at Delta, he'll volunteer for a furlough even if there's someone junior to him simply because he already has a retirement. I think that's a class act.
As far as all the other details, well, I hope he prospers at Delta and truly loves it there. Then I hope he'll start to advertise his new career to all his buddies, especially all his friends here at Big Brown.
Fedelta - for every senior Brownie who’s near retirement that you can talk into retiring and applying at Delta (or anywhere else - or just retiring, I don't care if they ever work again) I'll buy you and your wife a dinner at Spondivits or any other Hotlanta restaurant of your choice - deal?
We'll call it the "real friends take their friends with them" sponsorship program.

Frankly, I kind of liked FedElta's letter. Class act.
Y'know, this age thing is starting to get a little sour. Not a real impressive display on the boards lately. I'd bet that the same guys who whine the most are--just like me--the ones that thought they should have soloed or driven before age 16, or been able to drink before 21, or gotten an ATP before 23. We didn't. The law was mandated by age. But we managed to live through it. Now, we've just got another limit to deal with, although a painful one.
What p****s off the masses now are the guys who got a reprieve...but then become jerks about it. And we've got some of those. They are the one's who I'd grab the popcorn to watch take a little abuse, because some of 'em have it coming. But not all of them.
BTW...I'll need as much vaseline as anybody on this whole deal, and will no doubt stand to lose out too.
Might be worth taking a look outside the Democrat lot at the rest of this industry. Captains who are quitting the Majors to go expat, the regionals, furloughs, military pilots who don't know where they'll end up. There are a lot worse problems than dogging a decent guy with a papyrus birth certificate who, like the rest of us, is just trying to feed his family and get by.

Great letter Fedelta. The regional job I have was supposed to last a year or 2 before I moved onto a major. Now there 8 years (9/11, age 65, price of oil, economy, so on).
I can't control someone's personal decision to stay on the job anymore than I can control the middle east, the economy or other factors. All I can do is position myself as best I can career-wise so that when hiring does resume, I can hopefully take advantage. I also look for other money-making opportunities on the side, especially in case the airlines one day are no longer an option for me.
