The union already granted them the 24 months, according to IPNN a week or so ago. I believe the 12 months is only a hard number when we buy an airline. IMBW. We won't see any real change from this deal. Just heavier loads domestically.

I remember the company asking for 24 months, but I can't believe that in this climate of them trampling the contract at will, we would have given it to them without anything in return. Stay tuned on this one (I hope)

Although it doesn't actually come out and say it, the article sorta just accepts that it will take 24 months. See below.

TH1

“Second, because of the magnitude of the volume increase, a transition plan of approximately two years will be necessary. This will entail the reactivation of retired brown tail DC-8s, subject to FAA approval, along with a combination of wet leasing, dry leasing, and new aircraft acquisitions. At the end of this transition period, all of the flying would permanently become ours. We will see and review the transition plan to ensure that it complies with existing scope clause parameters,” explained Miller

Nothing prevents the company from outsourcing all this volume for 23months all the while figuring out how to minimize the air volume. Especially in these days of huge fuel costs. Do not forget that UPS is in the top 5 companies in number of railcars owned. Right now, we have a lot of volume that is not "air" that moves by air. This company excels at cost analysis. They'll figure out a way to keep the vast majority of this volume away from the IPA. If we get 20 DC8 equivalents out of this "mega" deal, I'll be amazed. Kinda a glum outlook, but to them its just bidness.

I've heard it will be peak volume every night with the DHL deal. We all know how many contractors we see that time of year so if this goes through, our additional flying will probably be somewhere in the middle.

Question: What does the cockpit smell like after two 60+ year olds get done flying it? Depends....

That is the funniest post ever!

I was just speculating that's all. Most UPS pilots were and still are just as surprised as the DHL pilots over this ordeal, If anything we were expecting Fedex to do it - not us.

I simply speculated on how UPS may transition this flying from DHL... Many of us think that it'll be contracted out for quite some time, that's why I mentioned Astar and ABX... It'd be very ironic and in a way cruel but no one really knows how it'll all play out.

My apologies to any Astar/ABX employee if my speculation upset you - that was not my intention...
