IMO, I believe alot more than 25% will retire. My guess is at least 50% or more. But the fact remains, not including the "Ropes", we are retiring 90 front seat pilots this year. And we have Menlo starting up in July. And we have 9 Firm aircraft deliveries. Just accounting for the retirements and aircraft deliveries, NO Contract, 7 Pilots a month just doesn't cut it. And what happens if we do get a signed contract. Where are the 100 FE's coming from? (50%). It would take at least 6 months to train em. And UPS can't force the "ropes" to stay. It just doesn't add up. You'll see.

Gemini or World.

Nash,
I hope your right. I personally was hoping we would by Polar, but I have heard that Polar has been talked about for a long time, but will never happen.

As far as the ropes, I say 25% reluctantly because I would like to see all of them leave. Dont get me wrong, I have nothing personal against them, Id just rather have those seats filled with crewmembes that had Senority numbers below mine.

With the advent of the age 60 rule changing and the possibility of them getting their Capt seat back, as well as the fact that most of these guys are holding cake lines and making big money to do it, not to mention, 6 weeks of vacation (which ends up being 3 weeks off for every one week of vacation), sick time, you name it, its a part time job for them and they will be getting paid close to $120 a year when the next contract is signed to do the job.

I know we all say that we are all out of here at age 60 (or before) You'll find me on a beach somewhere drinking a cold one, but I say there is alot to consider for these guys who for the most part worked under a sub-par contract for a mojority of their professional career here at UPS. If there is $120 a year staring you in the face and you only have to show up possibly one week a month for 8 months out of the year, would you leave given most of their situations??? Id have to consider it, but in the end, Id say most will stick around atleast for the glory days of the new contract, then after a year or two (when the honeymoon is over) they will start to jump ship. Dont count these guys out... JMHO

Default over 60 guys

BBDC8...

From my unscientific polling, it seems the FEs that live in SDF would tend to stick around, while those elsewhere want to bail. With the paucity of lines, a lot of them sit rsv and either have to pony up for the crashpad or make other arrangements.

For the SDF folks, ur right...it's easy money. I think it's far closer to 60% leaving rather than your 25%...these folks are tired of ups and want to get the heck out of here.

As far as six weeks vacation, do u have intel on the new contract??...Would be nice if it was six weeks but I haven't heard anything about that. More importantly is the ability to split the two week block given now for the senior guys....

JMO

I don't think as many will leave as people think.

Another thing....I would like to see the people that bid reserve that just
sit around because that would mean I would have a snowball's chance
in hell of holding a line being junior and what I am seeing is all the senior
guys bidding lines. Did that make any sense whatsoever????

Freightpuppy...

Had to read it twice to make sure...lol..but yes it does make sense. When rsvs get used a lot, the sdf guys will tend to bid lines..if they're going to fly anyway, they get to pick the time and place. That is when rsv goes jr and you and me, my friend, don't like it that much.

As a commuter, I would much rather bid lines. If I'm gone from home, I want to be on the company nickel. Just keep telling the sr guys that you're not working at all on rsv...maybe they will bid them again...

YMMV

Ha ha......I don't think that will work on the 727. I'll try it when I get done with 75 class.
