Who cares how many will lose jobs, as long as our politicians can get thier point across and get re elected that's all it matters. You and i and every other hourly bees are just a tool for thier campaign slogan.

DHL has already started the moves to dissolve it's agreements with it's air vendors, no political action can stop their market pullout or force them to stay in a losing enterprise.
UPS/Fedex will gain their market share if DHL is forced to pull out by politicos attempting to block the current UPS/DHL deal.
My prediction is that the UPS/DHL deal goes through because it will save more US and German jobs than an exit from a potentially very lucrative market.
The possibility that DHL will kiss and make up with ABX and Astar is nil.
Political action is based primarily on the politicos trying to protect their revenue base. At the Federal level protection of economic and revenue base is best served by DHL staying in the market and using an established profitable US corporation to provide their services.

Astar rumors are just that. This Deal is going through. No one can stop it. Not even the DOJ. And if there is any concerns, the deal will be "massaged". There may be small changes in the end, but the deal will happen. This is how anti-trust works. Give a little to save face for some politician.
This is reality. The announcement monday maybe for an agreement to use ILN or CVG. That's as far as it will go.

From IPA (UPS) forum posting: With today's fuel prices can anyone survive using 60-series DC-8's without cargo doors and early JT8D-equipped DC-9's and 727's? ABX doesn't have enough 767-200's and DHL probably doesn't have enough 70-series DC-8's to offset the rest of the fuel-inefficient fleet types. And neither airline can afford to recapitalize with a newer, fuel-efficient fleet. Something's gotta give, and if the politicians kill the deal, the Ohio jobs are probably gone anyway when Deutsche Post pulls the plug on the money-losing operation.

Not likely. DHL would run out of money before they could ever refleet the operation. Sorry, but I doubt it.
I predict the deal will go through as well, otherwise many more people will be out of work, permanently.

New airplanes, new sims, new training, new manuals, new procedures, FAA approvals, new bids, time...
