Equipment Bid at FedEx
So, did any other FDXers find anything believeable in Jack's email? How many times are they going to toss us the "equipment-bid-just-around-the-corner" bone? Or the "European-domicile-coming-soon" bone? I especially enjoyed the European SIBA idea; and it even suggested city possibilities!
This just seems to be more pot-stirring indirectly pointed at negotiations. Leaves a carrot hanging out there, something to plant in the back of your mind when the company makes their next attempt to circumnavigate our NC. "Ooooo, we better take this next sub-standard offer or else I won't get to move to CDG..." Cute: promise something they never really plan to do, then take it away if we don't cave to their demands. News flash: they NEVER will base pilots in Europe! If it would save a dime to do so, they would have done it already! They've been talking about basing pilots in Europe for years. Where's that laptop; where's the 727 replacement; where's the MD-11 HUD. I know the story, trust them, it's in the works, just solving a few more bugs, yadda, yadda, yadda...
Yeah, I guess I am a bit of a conspiricy theorist when it comes to management's actions. But I see no other reason for them to toss these "coming events" out there. If these were serious plans, why not just keep things quiet until details are finalized then announce them or publish the posting? Frankly, I think it makes management look unprepared to constantly make public all these upgrade and basing ideas and then fail to follow through.
On another note: only 900 guys updated their standing bid? Out of 4,700+ pilots? I wonder how many of those 900 changed their bid to 737 cpt 100%?
No draft, no volunteer, and I'm taking my vacation until they settle.

Jack IS management.
Yes, he is a pilot. Yes, he has a seniority number. Yes, he is a member of ALPA. Yes, he claims friendship with the pilots.
NO, he is not our friend.
Paragraph six of his letter - - "some management pog" talking to the press about being close to a contract... he says that's him. WHO does he think he is telling the press we're close to a contract?!?!? If he thinks it's time for a contract, why doesn't he act as a member of the COMPANY'S negotiating team and "get 'er done"?!?! Our positions are not unreasonable in the least - - The Company could wrap up a deal in 24 hours if they wanted to.
Who does HE think he is to make such statements?!?!? PARAPHRASE: "We'll have something by early summer, or we'll all be in big trouble." And thrown into the same paragraph, same topic, same subject, is his trouble with guys bumping jumpseaters, adding gas, maintenance issues, burning up brakes, etc. What does "etc." mean here? Is he accusing us of job actions?
To him, another 3 months seems reasonable. Sorry, Jack, but that ranks right up there with all the other bologna in the rest of your letters. No, another 3 months does NOT seem reasonable.
TWO YEARS IS TOO LONG ! ! ! !
Do yourself a favor. Read his e-mails for entertainment value, only. When there's somethng that matters about a bid, it will be an FCIF.

I think the only thing one can take to the bank from Jack's FCIF is that a bid will happen sometime. I find it hard to believe the powers that be would allow the training pipeline to dry up for any reason. Bids are for the company, not for us. We just happen to be able to take advantage of them (if we so choose) when they are posted.
Other than that his message was all smoke and mirrors.

When Jack took over a few years ago, he seemed like a pilot-advocate-straight shooter. Now the more we get into this negotiation quagmire, he is losing credibility and respect quickly.
His recent spaight of strangely worded, management-slanted emails is showing his true colors. Too bad...thought we could have had a good one near the top pulling for us...

No, I take that back -- that e-mail could have been a "in the heat of the moment" mistake. He showed his true colors when, after being contacted by the union, he sent a follow-up e-mail affirming the first, refusing to apologize for it.
Again, let me be perfectly clear.
He is management.
He is not your friend.

I wish our management pilots gave up their seniority number when they became management. It would then be clear to everyone where their loyalties lie. Just an "off-the-top-of-my-head" thought.
