Sweet ---- this may come in handy very soon.

Don't forget that you can do 1st Class if total duty time exceeds 11:30.
8.A.4. Class of Service for Commercial Deadhead Travel
... b. A class of service higher than coach shall be authorized if:
i. a deadhead exceeds 5 scheduled block hours; or
ii. a deadhead is included in a single duty period exceeding 11:30; or
iii. the scheduled block hours of a revenue flight plus the scheduled block hours of a deadhead in a single duty period exceed 8 hours. However, if a domestic duty period does not exceed 11:30 and a deadhead within that duty period does not exceed 1:30 (OAG) block, the deadhead may be scheduled in coach.
Deadhead greater that 5 hours is YOUR deviation scheduled deadhead (had to go thru ATL once to qualify- but worth it).
Most typical duty period exceedance is on the back end when you deadhead out with less than a legal rest period. As an example: arrive 0600 and deadhead before 1400 = less than 8 hours rest means same [effective] duty period. (Domestic is most restrictive)
12.C.6. Domestic Rest Provisions
a. A domestic rest period shall be scheduled for not less than 9 hours (8 hours when the following duty period consists entirely of deadhead to base), and shall operationally be not less than 8 hours.
Good Luck.
P.S. Claim your tips to GndTrans drivers as an Out-of-pocket expense.

Do you actually classifiy them as tips to a driver on the expense report?

If you using a cab, just tell the driver to make the fare total "X" amount, which includes the tip.

I've heard that the company will cover up to a 20% tip, but I just have the driver write a total amount with a tip line. Limos may be a little different.

Some of the contracts FedEx has with the transportation vendors includes a tip for the driver that makes the run.

I don't think I would post the "how to" on expense reporting on this site. May generate an FCIF on what is and what is not allowed.

I recommend deleting said info.

Similarly, is the 5 hrs based on "flight time"...or "total travel time" (i.e. flight time, plus layover connection, plus flight time)?

Thanks.
Not sure you got the answer you were looking for...

5hr rule is based on what you actually fly:

1)If the scheduled D/H is over 5hrs and booked in 1st class, but your deviation flight is less than 5hrs...You're limited to purchasing a coach ticket.

2)If the scheduled D/H is under 5hrs, but your deviation flight is over 5hrs...You're eligible for 1st class. Assuming you have enough bank money. Your bank remains based on the coach scheduled D/H.

The 5hrs is based on block times.

The 11:30 rule is based on duty times, including your deviation legs. Like Flybynight said...If you D/H home same duty time, it is quite easy to exceed the 11:30 and make yourself eligible for a 1st class ticket. Again, your bank will not change, just your eligibility.

There are 2 bus services directly out in front of the airport. Don't remember the exact cost but something in the neighborhood of 6-7 euros IIRC. The one I took stops in front of Trinity College. Walk back to the corner behind the bus and the hotel is across the street in front of you. Easy peasy, Japanesey.
