Default Fedx Overmanning

Just got a call for a draft trip to IND...Would be interesting what they would do with a reduced work force. I turned it down of coarse! I cant justify taking up the slack when I may lose position in the furture. However I am sure that someone will help them out, but this is ANC!

OK, you are 60 years old what would the company have to give you to get you out the door?

Your insurance would be about 1200/month, your pay would be 130K, you would not be contributing to your 401K or Bfund and no more sick leave or vacation.
After taxes and insurance you'd be living on $75,000 a year. Right now your total compensation package is about 400K (when you count insurance, 401K, Bfund, and vacation)

What maybe 2 million? 2.5? What gets these old guys to leave and stay home with their wives

It just aint going to happen. Sure some of the majors with zero or very little retirement can get guys to leave early. It is just too good of deal to stay.

At 2 million 100 pilots would cost Fred 200 million. no way!

I wish but you will never see it here. Unless we lose our great benefits like most have.

$75,000 clear a year to sit at home and do absolutely nothing. I must be missing something but sign me up. That $75,000 a year (did I mention after taxes) will come in handy pursuing my real interests.

Denied Training Date

I heard the same thing on the crew bus the other night. I think he was slotted a date for the -11 in ANC and was denied the swap because "the company needs engineers for peak."

As for early retirements, at the hub turn meeting last week, the ALPA rep stated that NOTHING will happen until after peak. No one at the company wants to be holding the bag because FDX is 10 Wide-Body Captains short during peak. During peak, expect no furloughs, no early outs, etc. After peak, it will be anyone's guess.

Yea who would want to travel around the world getting any trip in the bid pack for $400,000, working about 3 or 4 months a year when you can sit home and clip coupons for $75,000?

ME! in 15 years.

It's cheaper to have the most senior work for half pay than to encourage them to leave. Even when you factor in their lower productivity. Some are going to leave on their own anyway.

The next consideration is whether it is cheaper to buyup some retirements, keep doing the buyup program or furlough some young pups.

I don't think your math is right. Did you forget about the $25000 medical debit card?? My father-in-law retired back in '06. He says his checks seem bigger than when he was here getting all the stuff taken out of them. He hasn't had to touch his 401k and doesn't at all seem like he is struggling to get by. Of course he is on wife #1 and had everything paid off!! He was here 27 years and WB Capt from '86 to '06.

Shouldn't cost Fred much than. But the $2 million figure is out to lunch. We will never know but IMO 500K would get guys tripping over themselves to get out.
