Of course those that do park for days in the O&B lot are probably the same ones that fly DP's. It's the "all about me" attitude. If you're going to park in the lot for a couple days at a time, park near the back.... Buddy it only half the word.

first of all the company doesn't tell us that over 30 cars have been stolen out of the democrat lot and there are holes in the fence in the back....they parked those little observation towers around the lot with noone in them...nice!...i park in the ob lot but my trips justify that lot(ob,weekends)...but i will not park in the democrat lot until they have secure parking!!!...how do you like them apples?
and btw md11...thanks for costing the company millions of dollars now they have to furlough!!!

I know a guy that had his rear car window shot out on New Years Eve while it was parked in the Democrat parking lot. That sure makes me feel safe.
Anything you management lurkers can do about that?

Everybody's got an excuse!
Why I can't park where I'm suppose to. Why I picked up that disputed pairing.
Why I'm in a sleep room when I jump-seated in. Why I'm short landings, and got a have it.
Quite frankly, we've got a significant percentage of us, that are simply "one ways".
The entire crew force can't park in the O&B lot.
If you don't meet the parameters, don't fricken park there!
It's absolutely amazing the rationalization that's out there.

The point is, some have valid concerns and they need to be addressed to ensure that the program works for all.

I don't know, although most are trying to get away with something, sometimes someone comes up with a valid point. Such as this one:
While I agree that everyone needs to do the right thing, there also needs to be a 2-way street on the trust thing. If they are going to mandate that we park in the lot, they should do what they can to keep it secure and to keep us informed on the actual security situation out there. Do you know that a guy was shot and killed by a cop a couple of weeks ago after a chase that started in the FedEx lot? Apparently, he was trying to break into some of the cars. If someone can get into that lot unnoticed (by the way, he was eventually noticed - hence, the chase - but who knows how long he was there before being noticed) while armed, how hard would it be to carjack someone while he was loading bags into the car, etc?

That wasn't in the Democrat lot, it was over in the lot on Tchulahoma, and there's no report yet that he was armed. Not saying that security isn't bad in the Democrat lot, but you lose credibility when you mix up your facts.

If he was in one FedEx lot, do you not think he could have been in another? Are you under the impression that this was his first time in a FedEx parking lot, or could he have been in the Democrat lot previously without getting caught? If he was willing to fight a cop to the point of getting shot, do you not think he would have gladly fought a crewmember who happened upon him? Since there was nothing stopping him from being in the lot, was there something stopping him from being in the lot had he been armed? Are you disputing BoyCapt's assertion of stolen vehicles, also?
There is a perceived crime problem out there, or maybe you are one of those who won't think so until you are personally physically attacked. Others may be a little more astute, put all of these isolated facts together, and decide that discretion is the better part of valor and avoid putting themselves into a perceived risky situation. If someone thinks that the situation is risky, it is on the company to alleviate their fears in a real manner. To ignore it, pretend it doesn't exist, or try to keep the crewforce in the dark will do nothing to prevent those with actual concerns from parking where they feel it is safe to do so. If my wife were a crewmember, I would ensure that she not park in the Demo lot (especially anywhere but the first couple of spots in the first couple of rows) and sit around waiting for the next shuttle. We have plenty of armed security, a continuous armed presence on patrol in the lot would do wonders.
Anyway, my point was that some people have valid reasons why they do what they do, but that seems to be of no concern - at least publicly. Just because you may elect to ignore the risk does not mean they have to. It is bad enough each and every one of us is tagged as an unarmed person who has plenty to steal (at least in the minds of all of the non-pilots out there) every time we pull out of that pilot lot.

If the fence is cut, allowing individuals who do not have the right to access the Democrat lot, then the company should fix the problem. Has anyone brought this issue up to their ALPA representative? ACP?
To be honest, I haven't seen the Democrat lot in months and am unaware of where the fence is cut. Someone with knowledge should make the appropriate contacts to the aforementioned individuals.
Now, if a pilot is injured/attacked because of the security (or lack therefore of) the fence, then FedEx is responsible because the company "knew or should have known" about the deficiency. This should be something we want to avoid, including a "wait and see" approach and *hope* that no one is injured/attacked.
