UPS Vacancy bid?

I got started researching it a year ago when a Favre I was flying with on the 747 said that I should be glad that age 65 changed since it'll give me extra years at the top of the pay scale. I told him that I was in my early 30s and doubted that there would be manned cargo planes in the 2030s flying for UPS.
I remember when they were talking about trains operated by computers and at the time everyone said it'd be hundreds of years before passengers would accept those trains... Well, they are popping up all over the map now and let's face it, eventually it WILL catch up to us too...
Again, I think all of us WILL be retired before that happens (well, maybe not freightpuppy, she's still a baby... ) but most of us will long be gone...

More than likely the joke about the pilot and the dog would happen. One pilot, chilling most of the time, there if needed. So.... Scope should simply require a minimum of 2 pilots in the plane, human that is- more if duty/contract/far obviously. The managers can fly the legs remotely....

Heck no, you'd have to subscribe to every every negative news article out there and post it here as soon as you found it gloomy enough for you to reach his gloom rating...
I do agree that UAVs are coming by the way, I just think all current UPS drivers will be retired when it finally happens here. It would be good to bring it up in our next contract though, just in case..

Back to the thread topic...rookie question here. Can each fleet's list of pilots be expanded via a displacement bid, or do you have to have a vacancy bid first? I.E., if UPS decides to displace and expand the cadre of A300 F/O's from 200 to 230, do the extra 30 spots have to show up on a vacancy bid first? I know I should read the contract, but I'd rather decipher Chinese military code in my spare time.

Yeah, I could have sworn that same provision applied when they parked the 727s. They listed excess vacancies on the A300, Z, domestic and ONT, and as far as I remember no one but the ones getting displaced could bid on those vacancies. This is at least a small piece of eeeexcellent news in an otherwise bleak outlook.
Thanks for looking it up B2.

Ugh...I actually went back and read the contract...apparently Chinese military code is actually tougher to figure out. Anyway, for those interested I believe paragraph 14-F addresses the above scenario. 14-F-4 will be of particular interest to some here on the board.

I read the contract and would like some "interpretation" help. Does it actually mean that during the displacements incured from parking aircraft that the following "vacancy bid" will be for displacees only?
