New hire pay in 1990 was 30k, in todays dollars that is worth 51k.
New hire pay in 2000 was 26k, in todays dollars that is woth 38k.
New hire pay in 2004 was 26k in todays dollars that is worth 28k.

Of course this is all before taxes. So Fr8dog you had a lot more buying power with your 20k after taxes than todays newhire with his 20k after taxes.

no not at all. 26k today was worth around 14k in 1990. 26k today would buy around 22k in 2000. My point is that those hired in 1990 made twice as much as those hired today. Those same guys are trying to screw us by beefing up their A plan so they can retire at the expense of current FO pay.

Whatever my salary was worth in yesterday's or today's dollar, it wasn't sufficient to feed my family
I had saved as much as possible in preparation for the first year at Brown and it still wasn't enough. Really a sad situation for a company that is so successful.
Don't get me wrong, I came here on my own free will.
Big brown hires and receives the experience of quality individuals.They hire experience and should provide a salary commiserate with that level.

What if the guy looking for a country club membership was an ex-POW who was shot down in Nam, and did a few years in the Hanoi Hilton? Is He supposed to refrain from enjoying his life because poor little you? I don't mean to sound harsh, your probably a good guy, but you shouldn't care about what he posted. Your looking for pity or a shoulder to cry on, and a forum full of pilots is not the place to find it. Maybe Dr Phil's website! Go ask the kid launching off a carrier at night, flying into a combat zone, if he thinks its fair that he can't afford a country club membership. Do what you have to do, I worked at one of the crappiest jobs in order to pay my families health insurance, was it fair, no, but thats what separates the men from the boys! Take care of yourself, don't worry about the other guy....mow some lawns on your days off!

It may be funny but theres a grain of thruth to it, when the chips are down sometimes you have to do whatever it takes. I hit a rough patch back in 93/94/95, went from a Air Force Flight examiner, to building decks for $8.00/hr. My goal was to make $100 a day to pay my bills. One job I did consisted of driving construction equipment and getting chewed out by construction workers all day, cause the machine kicked up a ton of dust! I'd get yelled at by 8th grade graduates by day, then lead a 6-ship formation at night! Alot of people think they are too good to do certain jobs, then they whine when they don't have enough money!
Hell mow 5 lawns a day for $25 a lawn, thats descent money,

I'm not against working hard along the way.
I cleaned carpets, painted houses and pumped gas into airplanes whose pilots had less flying experience than me.
You shouldn't have to mow the grass and pick up open time to pay your bills.
