Commuting from LAX-ANC
#21
Archie, here's a stupid question for you...
If you try to list yourself 12 days in advance and it's already booked up by the time you call, can you put your name on some kind of 'next in line' list?
If not, what do you do? ...just show up hoping for the best?
Thanks

If every jumpseat is taken 12 days out, I'll keep checking it every day to see if any of the Priority 3 folks cancel or get removed by the company for whatever reason. So far, I've always had at least one of the Pri 3 riders disappear off the list, and I've been able to list. If it comes to commute day, and there are still no openings on the ONT-ANC flight, I'll still drive up to ONT having listed on the BFI flight as a back up. I'll ask if anybody has cancelled off the ANC flight one last time before I go to BFI instead (the two flights leave within 5 min of each other). After arrival in BFI, it's a cab ride to SEA, then I have to roll the dice with Alaska Airlines.
As a sidenote....I have been listed on the jumpseat 12 days out only to be bumped multiple times by Pri 3 riders. You get absolutely no warning of this, and you must really watch the jumpseat list every day to see if you're still listed. On my last commute to ANC, I got bumped twice, and was finally able to list (for the third time) to remain on the list.
Ah....the life of a commuter.

If there's a "next in line list," they've kept it a secret from me. The company has something like this if you're bumped....but it will only be for the ANC-SDF-ANC commuters.

Thanks Archie. 1 more question, I understand that is someone wants to sign up for the move package they have 1 year to complete the move. However, what if after one year you still haven't moved? Since no moving costs have been occured by the company, are you still required to move?
I'm asking because I'm not sure if I could actually afford to buy anything besides a trailer in Anchorage...

Call the IPA. They would know the answer to your question. And this way you get the real, straight "skinny" from an official source. I'm sure they have answered your question before.

Only got a few more days to bid and I wasn't impressed with Skype’s call quality here in Shanghai when I called home a few hours ago, tried several times but kept getting LOTS of static... Figured I'd try the almighty APC…

As much as I love APC, I'd go with door #2.....enormous amounts of static, over skype, from PVG, from an IPA source.

Are you still in Shanghai? I just arrived an hour ago, and will be here til the 9th.
