From DW on down....to exclude those Union personnel who continue to labor absorbing the same financial hits we have taken.....I have NO/ZERO/NADA faith in our Union to represent OUR best interests. How could any of them with a clear conscience accept over 90 hours a month in pay while saying they are "one of us" during these times?
I blasted Pablo for bidding the 777 as a union official and was singed for not understanding there was a "legitimate" reason why we should make an exception for him violating the guidance given by the Union at the time. "He's a good guy, we need guys like him as instructors, consider what would have happened if God-forbid another non-team-player had bid it" and "can you imagine what we could have been stuck with"?
Hey guys.......here's a news flash.......the Union officials we expect to stand on the front lines for us fighting the good fight have not and do not feel our pain. Do not ask or expect or attempt to chide me into not picking up an open time trip until I see the Pope and his potentate feeling some of OUR pain..in their wallet....not their egos.

Would this be the same FO that has his work calender on his website.

What was the union's "guidance at the time", exactly?

I normally never post and when I have posted in the past the forum has removed my posting for inappropriate content. So here is another attempt to offend the indefensible and admit I feel the same way hamfisted does - Until carryover is limited, it is unreasonable to ask the junior folks to bear the brunt of the shared sacrifice on both ends.

Ham,
I'm prone to throwing rocks but have repented as of late...so I'll try to appeal to your sense of honor...

...If a friend of mine is in trouble and needs help, I am there. Doesn't matter where or when. Whatever I can do, sign me up. Aren't YOU like that? I'd like to think we all (or at least the vast majority of us) are. That somehow during the hiring process those qualities were an unspoken requirement.

Guess what? Our friends on the bottom are VERY worried. They need our help. It doesn't matter what "other people" do. What are YOU gonna' do? What should you encourage others to do? I think your problem is that you can't put a face on this...you don't know anyone personally that's in that predicament. I know several.

This isn't the time to make statements about how you feel about the union leadership (I, too, have my gripes). This is the time to come to the aid of your fellow crewmembers.

Dear Oceanside11,
Great post! It is easy to go down the road of ...if they are doing it I will as well... Cut off the Nose to spite the face, kinda thing. I fell into that trap this month. Picked up a trip and justified it to myself by thinking that if everyone else was doing it, or, if I don't fly it somebody else will, or, I need the money, or, it fits my schedule perfectly, or, you get the picture. In a more sober moment, I realized my mistake and dropped the trip back into open-time. I saw the F/O filling my shoes today, I was jumpseating home, and he was a reserve guy. Cannot say how happy I am with my decision.

Bottom line, "...there are always multiple reasons to not do the right thing; there is usually only one reason to do right..."

In Unity,
Rob

Some one help out here. Oceanside11 and Herkman34 are talking about some unequal share of the burden befalling upon the junior crew members. At present, it appears that the burden, Reduced BLGs and the reduction of MBLG, is affecting all crew positions. While it seems to be in fashion to shun make up flying, can I ask what other circumstance is on the table, that is specifically targeting the junior crew members?

When a furlough appears more evident, I concur, we will need to step up to the plate and defend ourselves. But gnawing at each other because some think the sky is falling and others are trying to sustain themselves in an uncertain time, I think is counter-productive.

I made a post earlier that made reference to those that were not behaving in a reasonable manner. It is always prudent to be reasonable, in good times and in bad. If we can get most of us to do that, that would likely ease the burdens of our group. But we know that we won't change the minds of those that have only a mind for themselves.

We can talk about RLG being less than BLG if you want. Doesn't that tend to impact junior pilots more?

Most of the criticism has been of extra flying as opposed to make up flying. But if the company says they overmanned, and are reducing our pay because of it, does it make sense that we have pilots doing the work of 2 pilots or even 1.25 pilots? If everybody flew 10% extra doesn't that mean the company is an extra 400 pilots overmanned?

Rob,
Thank you for your support. It's not an easy time for me not to fly extra. I could not have foreseen the expenses I am currently dealing with. The ability to make up the difference is out there...unfortunately it's not the right climate. After the New Year's Eve FCIF by PC, I felt a line had been drawn in the sand and it was one I would not cross. So I am sucking it up. I don't envy others who are in similar situations. I hope they are not only able to see the big picture but able find a way to stand with us. I also hope everyone who is preoccupied with union politics can put that aside for the time being. There will be plenty of time for that later.

You hear that everyone? Put down your rocks and buckets of mud. Grab an oar instead...if you know what I mean.
