So...They're moving more guys to HKG, so they can lower their BLGs? And thus, make the MEM A300 crews look more productive after the upcoming excess?
Is that what he means by "better distribute available flying across more pilots"?

OK --- first thought, what's up with now publishing an "Operating Fleet Plan" vs the previous "Fleet Plans".
At first blush, it looks like the overall fleet shrinks significantly; however, does the word "Operating" imply this reflects the # of jets we actually plan to fly each day (i.e. Mon~Fri) vs the # we own/lease?
It is my understanding, that as of Jan 09 there were 80 727s on property and we "scheduled" 57 per day ---- note, the difference between # on property vs. # scheduled.
Comparing the # of jets posted in the Nov 2008 "Fleet Plan" (FP) vs the Feb 2009 "Operating Fleet Plan" (OFP) we have:
Acft -- FP-May 09 ~ FP-May 10 / OFP-May 09 ~ OFP-May 10
727 -- 78 ~ 69 / 50 ~ 52
757 -- 9 ~ 21 / 7 ~ 16
A300 -- 122 ~ 124 / 99 ~ 84
MD10 -- 73 ~ 80 / 60 ~ 57
MD11 -- 58 ~ 60 / 48 ~ 50
777 -- 0 ~ 4 / 0 ~ 4
What are our current ulitization rates of other acft besides the 727?
I think this data is important to fully understand how much the fleet is actually shrinking.
Discuss.

Unless LOA 2 can do something to sweeten the pot, I really don't see more than 2 more guys bidding the right seat. The reason it didn't get filled in the first place was the loa(s) suck. Plain and simple. At some point either the company or the union(maybe both) have to fess up and come to an agreement if they want to get this filled.
All of the excess in the world isn't going to change people's minds. Yes some of us near the bottom are scared, yes the economy and job markets suck right now, but are you willing to bid HKG(as a junior guy), and still have the realization, that I could still be furloughed by the end of the year if things don't start to turn around.
If it cost 2.5 siba guys to cover one FO's flying, (not including the cost of plane tickets), at some point the company should do something to fix the situation.
My 2 cents, but I will be furloughed before I take that crappy loa over there.

What immediately struck me as strange was ... how can we have fewer 757's a year from now than we have now? Aren't new ones arriving every month?
Also ... I wonder if the A310 payload is similar to the 757 payload? The 757 might be much cheaper to fly? Anybody know?

The FCIF says 6, but the FCIF on PFC says 16. An error on the FCIF, I'd say.

From: One foot in the garbage bag...
If you examine the OFP and use the PFC numbers [16 757's vs 6], then you come to realize that this represents a net loss, from May '09 to May '10....of TWO airplanes.
Maybe I'm a screaming optimist, but I bet there is no furlough. That is...if these numbers are correct. Believe me, I'm not planning to buy a Porsche this year~
