I don't think it's bailout rather fair game. Fedex has no union xept thier pilot force and ups all unionized company trying to deliver the same quality product while they compensate thier employees the same or better so making a level field is hardly a bailout. Think of a boxing match when both competetors are the same size and strenth but on has both arms tied behind his back.

Your analogy would be a good one if it were true. But UPS has 440,000 employees - almost double that of FredEx. Not to mention our route structure is more efficient. I do agree with you though about the level playing field.

I resent your implication that unions are a drain on a company's efficiency or its ability to compete. Why look what they have done for the automobile and steel industries. Where would we be without our unionized Postal Service, or for that matter the whole unionized Federal Goobermint.

Just how much money and benefits do you think you'd be earning if your pilots weren't unionized? Without your union's support, do you really think you guys would have hundreds of excess pilots sitting around on the property now, GETTING PAID, or would they more than likely be laid off...PERMANENTLY. Don't forget that post-furlough recall rights are priviliges negotiated and enjoyed only by UNIONS.

Your assertion that FedEx doesn't have an enormous advantage over UPS by having a non-unionized labor force is laughable.

I don't see anything funny at all about this parody. It's both misleading and slanderous. The REAL bailout has been for FedEx over the forgoing decades by exercising marginal and out-dated loopholes in the RLA. Fred has done a remarkable job over the years by greasing up his pals on Capitol Hill with "lobby" money, in order to preserve these provisions and enjoy his high end of the non-level playing field with his prinicple competitor. Fortunately, this unfair advantage is coming to an end, and now we can truly compete as we ought to be doing. This is the American way.

I didn't assert that FEDEX doesn't have an advantage. Obviously you were taught to read by a union teacher. I think they have a big advantage. Back to the original analogy; if tying the hands of both fighters doesn't make for a good fight maybe we can try poking out their eyes or chopping off some feet.

I am not sure I belong to a "strong" union. I am not sure I am paid much more then if ALPA had never been voted in. I am sure that belonging to Union does have some advantages and on the whole is a plus. I am not sure a steel worker or UAW member can say the same thing. As far as furlough protection, the idiots at Fedex MEC knew about the weakness of our furlough protection language, they just chose to ignore it.
