Relax guy, it's going to be alright. I was just confirming a question.
Ignore all the smart@ss replies. There are many short fused people due to circumstances around UPS these days.

The answer you're looking forward though is no. Must be employed by a carrier and in the CASS system, or one of the other groups that someone already mentioned. Just a Comm ticket won't cut it.

To everyone else, the guy asked a simple question. A simple straightforward answer would have sufficed.

According to UPS, they will be hiring drivers during the next 5 years while they forecast the pilots to be furlough until 2015.

>ATLANTA -- UPS is hiring 25,000 drivers -- just not yet.

"As the business continues to grow and as baby boomers retire, we're looking to hire up to 25,000 drivers over the next five years," said Keisha A. Simmons, Public Relations Supervisor for UPS.

Job hunters who may have missed the time frame pushed "UPS jobs" to the top of Google's search list Thursday. In addition, some Web sites have mistakenly suggested that the positions are available immediately. Simmons says that just not accurate.

And "that doesn't mean that we're hiring drivers off the street," she said. "It's a combination of external candidates and internal candidates who will be promoted from within." <

Actually FedEx does not either. Unless you are CASS or if you work for FDX you have to have an FAA licence either pilot/dispatch/mechanic and it has to be required on your day to day job (cant be a driver with a dispatch ticket) in order to personal jumpseat the only exceptions are company business or what they call staging and even that is limited to between your home and work ONLY. if you don't fall into the above catagory and that is limited to certain employees as well. Sorry. 9/11 and in the case of FX one other incident ruined it for everyone.

Not to hijack this thread, but is Ms. Simmons actually saying that there are baby boomers that are working at UPS as package car, or long haul drivers? I find that hard to believe that there could be many of them, because both jobs, but especially the package car driver, is a young persons job. I can't imagine someone who is age 60 or above doing that kind of work. I'm sure there are a few, but not enough to even bother counting.

Last of the boomers = 1964ish = 45 yo. I couldn't do the UPS driver work, but those late boomers that are in shape, perhaps.

Most of them have moved to feeders but there are quite a bit of package car drivers who are in their 50's and 60's. Driver jobs in some regions can take upwards of 10 years to get. Imagine loading trailers for 7-10 years part time until a driver job opens up.

Wow... some childish behavior and name calling. Is she that bad of a person? Maybe if you live where you work it wouldn't be a problem getting a jumpseat, because... wait for the other shoe to drop... you would drive your car to work like the rest of the people....

It's not a RIGHT is a... PRIVILEGE.
