FDX/UPS Payscales
I am interested in the opinion of the FDX and/or UPS pilots regarding the simplified payscales IE: flat Capt/FO rates based on longevity, not aircraft and longevity.
This is a quote from another forum. Does this sound accurate?
"A borderline pilot- a guy whose choices are between reserve on bigger or line holder on smaller, will likely end up as reserve when the reserves senior to him bid on top of him. If he's a commuter, he's screwed. He and many others won't have the option to commute to a line holder. The point being, when the dust settles, on a Capt/FO only system, seniority flattens out. In those first many years of your career, you WILL be on reserve, period. You'll wait longer to find a safe haven. "
Thanks for your insight....

It probably has more to do with where you are in the hiring stream. Front of the wave good, back of the wave good but you will be sitting reserve. Somplaces reserve aint a bad gig and can go senior. I used to love it my 1st 3 years here.
I am sure the UPS system has some marginal advantages for quicker advancement, but hey we got some pretty Jr Wide Body Capts (in Hong Kong).
Bottomline, similar to growing old, being Jr sucks but it usually beats the alternative.

I think the majority of UPS pilots like the one scale for CA/FO. You can bid the aircraft you want based on trips and not worry about pay. It greatly improves QOL. Plus, you don't have to keep going to the school house chasing the money.

FedEX does have different rates for aircraft, unlike UPS. We have a narrow body rate and a wide body rate. All aircraft have different flying (international/domestic). Fly what you can hold and like...its as simple as that.

Career earnings are greater if you compare the two systems UPS/FedEx. I'm sure the training costs are less too. I would prefer it if the system were based on the highest payscale. I would ditch the bus' crappy schedules in a second.

Similar to narrowbody in Memphis - on paper I'm a hundred numbers away or so. But in the last bid I was 700 numbers from it.

76.2% widebody (including 56 still on the 10 ) and 23.8% narrowbody. I'd say FedEx is closer to UPS's single payscale than most other airlines with individual aircraft payscales already.

So, back to the original question;
Which would any of you prefer....the payscale you have now, or one similar to the traditional legacy payscales? I am looking for arguments both for and against switching the current system at Delta to a UPS/FDX model....
I personally prefer the UPS/FDX to what we have, but I want to see if I can make the case that a switchover would be beneficial to a majority of the pilots.
