Why would AA ditch the 757?

I'm not really sure, but maybe they have their eye on newer Boeing products, or maybe they want to ditch the 757 so they can buy a bunch of RJ's and further reduce pilot pay. What's interesting I feel is that back when FedEx was initially considering the 757, one of the downsides to that jet was the amount of wingtip vortices produced in the takeoff and landing modes. Because of the inbound recovery and outbound launch windows in Memphis, on a nightly basis, the word was that this plane would require more time/distance between jets to avoid the aforementioned vortices. I guess that problem was solved Oh well, it'll be nice to have the 757 if for no other reason than it's cool looking.

I would think that the 75's would be coming from United rather than American. United is using A319/320's and has 99 757's. I couldn't see American ordering A319/320's. Who knows it's a strange world.

Just like every other used airplane FedEx buys ,,,,,,,we get them from everywhere and anywhere they can find them,,,,,USAir will probably get rid of theirs and replace them with A-321's....AWEST also, Might get a few from UAL or AMR. Many of these 757's are owned by leasing companies anyway.
Plenty of small Non scheds and Charte outfits flying them in the US and in Europe.

Default Wing tips..

I have seen some CAL 757 with wing-lets...does anyone know if this has any impact with the separation issue or is just helping out with fuel???

I've heard the 757 is sexy because of "big jugs and long legs..."

The winglets, if you ask me, make it look like "big jugs, long legs, and high heels...." Grrrrrrrr.

Delta is planning on simplifying their equip down to four a/c type. They may get some of the a/c from Delta.

Actually, AA is in the process of selling 17 of their 757's to Delta, so I doubt Delta would be turning around and selling some to FedEx. This has to do I think with the old TWA 757's with Pratt engines that didn't fit with AA's Rolls Royce powered fleet.

United as a source of FedEx's 757's makes some sense, since they already have Airbusses and could acquire more. But I really think there might be something to AA selling more 757's with an eye toward modernizing their fleet in the coming years...

I couldn't see that either... but when you consider the embarassment the A380 has been they need to get some good publicity somehow. Maybe toss AA some cheap planes and get a big order would do the trick? The only thing that matters is the almighty stock price, right?
