I'll use it because I have to, but as usual the guys that made the decision to buy this, fly cubicles not airplanes.
The decision to go to LIDO was a result of the decision to go to an EFB. I flew one of the first-round evaluation sims where we compared the Jepp and the LIDO EFB in the line environment (e.g. CDG-FRA). You DO NOT want the Jepp EFB over the LIDO. Trust me. The LIDO paper products may have some drawbacks compared to Jepp, but the point is to get to the EFB where the paper product is only a backup.

The decision makers may have had a cubicle somewhere, but they also had a lot of input from line pilots.

Actually, that rumor that we were going back to Jepps and the Jepp EFB had some merit. (Don't get excited, it isn't going to happen now.) A few months back, we expressed our "concerns" to the LIDO people, and were looking into a back up plan. But LIDO got on the ball and took care of the issues we had. So, suck it up already and learn the LIDO.

And it stands for Leave It Dammit Onboard. What else do you need to complain about when you aren't lugging a 45 pound accident waiting to happen?

So since you state "LIDO is an inferior product offered by the lowest bidder" tell us what Jeppeson offered. I know and will correct you if you answer incorrectly.

My understanding is that Jepp offered little more than Adobe PDF files of what we carry now. No interactive features. Is that true?

I participated in the first Beta tests of the EFB, where we used LIDO and Jeppesen.

Your description of the Jepp product is spot on.

The LIDO product, while completely new to us, was far more intuitive to use, and a much better EFB product.

I like LIDO; I have been using it exclusively since the spring. My Jepp bag is just ballast stuffed with envelopes of updates to stay legal. I only open it to put the update envelope in it.

The only guys pushing back on this are the guys nearing retirement who still input their bid via phone and/or only have dial-up at home IF, and that's a big IF, they even have a computer at home. And no, I'm not counting some of the TRS 80's they probably still use either.

Jumpseated with a Boeing crew today and el Capitano was still using Jepps. WTFO? I wished I wasn't a jumpseater.... I would have asked him if that was his security blanket.

I've got a trip on 13 Oct and I'm taking my Jepps in a F'ING GROCERY BAG and dumping them when I get to destination.

BTW, the Jepp contract for paper products is about $630,000.00 PER MONTH! Not per year, per month!

Default Yea Lido

Lido - just like Fido - Man's best friend.

I'm young enough to adapt, but old enough to get warn out by carrying an extra 50# of Jeps around the world. Sure there are some problems, but when you notice the problems, report it. It might not get updated right away, but it will eventually.

Yea Lido!!!

Yeah, it's a good system, but I play Lido Hockey every time I rotate - just where will the binder slide off and end up at?

If it makes it to the hardened door that's a goal....
