CIC Makeup Question
#1
Im new to this game and a little confused. 57 hours of cic makeup next month.
It says each input request you make is considered a bid. Does that mean that i need to put all combinations of trips to get to 57 hours on one line like:
1.TRiP/DATE,TRIP/DATE,TRIP/DATE
2.TRIP/DATE,TRIP/DATE,TRIP/DATE
This way leads to excessive combinations on each line
or could I list them as single trips until the ones I can hold add up to 57 hours
1. trip/date
2. trip/date
3. trip/date
Also,
Is a carryover trip request's Credit hours charged against your 57 hours or just the part of the carryover trip that occurs in the month you are bidding for,
For example If i request a 34 hour carryover trip that goes into may and only 4 hours of the carryover trip are in april will my cic make up bank be ccarged for 34 or 4? Or would this even be allowed.
I appreciate someones expert help.

If you can't get the entire combination of trips you put on a single line, you'll get nothing (and like it!
)
To answer your first question:
If you want various combinations of trips only if you can have the entire combination, then you would “build” each input you felt was acceptable and input those in your order of preference. One combo per line.
You want trip A, B and C over a week long period. They would all “work” or mesh together with no conflicts similar to a string of hub-turns.
You would put them in on one line (A/date, B/date, C/date) ONLY if you wanted them all or nothing.
If you want all of them, but would be willing to take any ONE of them without the others, then you would input:
1. A/date
2. B/date
3. C/date
Assuming your preference was A,B,C in that order.
Putting 3 trips that conflict with each other on the same line(as if to say: I’ll take any one of these, it doesn’t matter which one) would be an invalid input. You need to rank order trips that conflict with each other and put each one on a single line.
A carryover trip comes out of the 57 hours. It doesn’t matter which month the hours fall into. Any CIC hours you don’t make up go into your general make-up bank.
If I goobered any of this, I’m sure someone will correct me. Hope that helps.

If i am willing to take any 30 hour trip of my choice then :
1. trip/date......30hrs
2. trip/date......30 hours
3. trip/date......30 hours
Is a valid input and the computer will go down my list assigning the first available 30 hour trip and then the next available one until i meet my 60 hours cic makeup.

Incorrect! As soon as it assigns ONE of your requests, it is done with you. In your example, if someone senior to you gets your first request, the system will look at your second. If you can get it, the system is done with you, even though you may have been able to hold your request 3 as well. I did the very same thing about 8 months ago. I had about 50 hrs CIC. I put down 5 or 6 requests
#1 trip A/date........(7hrs)
#2 trip B/date........(9hrs)
#3 trip C/date........(20hrs)
#4 trip D/date........(6hrs)
#5 trip E/date.........(9hrs)
I got my first choice worth 7 hrs and that was it.

My experience has been that the system acts exactly like Adler described it....and, I've input several pages worth of requests in an attempt to get something close to what I'm hoping for (unlike VTO lines, after the first set of requests is filled it will take you to another page of blank request lines.)
The important safety tip is don't request a 57 hour carryover trip....you might get it and that will put your current bid month pay at essentially 0

Here are the instructions from VIPS Help regarding make up bids (i.e. CIC). Adler was correct.
Bid Award and Trip Assignments
After the view/add window closes, make-up bids will be automatically processed and awarded in seniority number order.
Any bid that includes multiple trips will require that all trips on that bid satisfy the CBA and/or FAA restrictions and legalities. In other words, all trips in a single bid must be able to be assigned to you in order for the system to award you that bid. Each of your bids will be processed in bid number sequence. If the system is unable to award you a bid due to conflicts, legality issues, or seat not open for any of the trips in the bid, then the next bid will be considered. This sequence of processing will continue for each of your subsequent bids until your targeted make-up limit has been achieved.

Adler is right. You will be awarded trips in order. If you get a trip, they will go to your next trip request (in order) until the end of your list. If you have 57 hours in makeup and get a 30 hour trip, it will keep filling available trips until you hit 57 + 6 (you can go over by no more than 6 hours).
If you are very senior, you will not need to make that many bids. If you are very junior, you may want to put down every trip that you are willing to take. The system goes to the most senior bidder, fills all of his trip requests that are available, then goes to the next guy, etc.
Good luck
