Line Numbers for Management Pilots at UPS?

I don't doubt that this is true. One of the things that has me scratching my head is Bob Miller's platform that these guys must be unionized. I agree with him, but he doesn't exactly say that they should be in the IPA.

The "higher ups" at UPS are already making plans to combat any IPA initiative
to take management supervisors onto the line. Rick Barr will be taking questions at the next flight qualified management communications meeting on 11/13. Standby for news.

Not sure how much action he can take if we just claim ownership of that flying and those pilots, and the NMB agrees. Only defense I could see would be the company buying us off with something our group wants in order to back off on that issue. That would be a short sighted mistake on our part in my opinion

UPS is very excited about this issue. We are told that there will be meetings very soon and that the issue will be fought "tooth and nail". I bet that it would take 3-5 years to resolve.

GEOFFREY,
You are certainly familiar with the group of flight qualified managers who sought union representation, were subsequently fired and later awarded various settlements. What is stopping managers, such as yourself, from re-energizing this movement? It was well before my time, but it seems to me the case was a clear cut victory for those pilots involved.
Also, would the managers you are familiar with be opposed to a date-of-hire seniority integration with the IPA or would they hold out for current seat seniority. Just curious.

First, no one was fired except for Dorsey. The remainder of the group had
"Come to Jesus" meeting with higher authorities.
The other issue, about date of hire, would be ok for people who have been here since the beginning, not so good for people who have just arrived.

You are a reasonable person. Many pilots at UPS want mgt. pilots to be
"stapled" if they are brought to the line. You know and I know this is
ridiculous. In seat, with no harm to line people is the best way.

Well, it took me 10 (ten) years to make captain at Brown. I would be quite alarmed at the thought of managers on the property for 6 months holding left seat. DOH is the only way that is truly fair if you ask me. I'm just one line slug though.

Just returned from a mandatory flight qualified management meeting with Rick Barr, et. al.
They (Barr and Karen Lee) said that the company would fight any effort by the IPA "tooth and nail" as long as it would take to defeat any unionization of management. They also warned us to return no cards to the NMB if an effort were made to get a management vote on unionization. It seems to me and others, that the IPA talk of taking in management is just election talk and not really serious.
I think they are right.
