If you get called for draft, and the trip is disputed, does it hurt the SIG to take it at draft?

In a word, Yes!

Flying the trip in any voluntary status hurts the process. Contrary to what the word draft implies, the DRAFT status is voluntary -- you have every right to say, "No, thank you."

They won't try to Draft until they're out of reserves, and if everybody declines, they won't be able to get the trip flown. They'll have to revise it, or break it up, or get a manager to fly it. That's a big win for the SIG DP process.

I dont think there was a whole lot of effort into explaining it away. There was a whole lot of effort into questioning the effectiveness. If we are not allowed to question the effectiveness of a union policy i guess that will cancel a whole lot of your posts.

For my part there was a whole lot of effort into questioning the effectiveness of a union policy to promote unity that had good union brothers insulting members in good standing who dont fly dps. While ignoring, to the point of absolving, dp flyers who do wear a lanyard.

Again I wear a lanyard. I sure hope that gets us the 3% raise this time around.

This has not happened, but if it did, I would like to know the "right" thing to do.

I would not fly it at regular pay, but draft would be tempting, if I wouldn't hurt the SIG.

I could take that trip at regular pay, but I won't.

I hope they have to give it to a reserve.
You serious Clark?

Think about how happy all of the other pilots are when they pass up an OK trip that fit their schedule and then watch as scheduling pads the bank account of their favorite pilots who already fly 150% of BLG and wear a lanyard.

I asked the question so I wouldn't be one of "those guys".

If called for draft for a DP, I won't take it.

Is that clear enough?

Thank you for wearing it -- my comments weren't directed at you. Of course you can question its effectiveness -- as long as you're wearing it. I don't think anybody is claiming that 4,600 ALPA lanyards will get us the perfect contract. It's a step. Yes, lanyard wearers fly DPs. They also pick up extra trips and sell back vacation while their brothers are terminated. We have scabs who wear lanyards. We have pilots wearing lanyards who flooded their calendars with Make-Up, carryover, and Volunteer trips while their brothers struggled with 48 CH BLGs during 4.A.2.b. -- actions which I believe prolonged that struggle. We have lanyard wearers who work overtime at straight pay while we're in RLA Section 6 negotiations. Which one is the greatest sin? And I've only just started. I don't like everyone who wears the lanyard, nor do I appove of everything every lanyard wearer does. That said, I don't think anybody's asking that we all like each other. It's nothing more than a simple way to display our unity ... or lack thereof.

If you know of a way to fix all of the things that are wrong (or to even get everyone to agree which ones are wrong) I'm sure the Negotiating Committee would be thrilled to hear it. Meanwhile, we'll have to work on the first baby step.

It is always amazing to see grown men believing in the power of amulets like lanyards, pins, a rabbit's foot,a four leaf clover or other talismans to ward off evil.

It's about being a part of something bigger than yourself.

A novel concept these days....

Yes, but when there's nothing bigger than yourself, or your ego...
