If rumors are correct, and they should be considering our fleet plan, we will have an excess bid posting sometime in Dec for implementation starting in Jan.

The earliest I see hiring occurring is near, or after, the tail end of training generated by that bid.

Welcome to the Brown Turd World. Since UPS hasn't Hired in 7 years! That's right, 7! I feel like I'm at USAir, the last lost Decade. There has not been an upgrade Vacancy Award in years. Just Realignment after Realignment Bids. To cover for the 25 or so Retirements a year. Yes, I said 25 a year. Not a month.

Hopefully this will just be short term for you guys, not 7 years worth.

Gunter ...

"If" there is going to be an excess bid after peak (there "could" be, we have a bunch of old, expensive to maintain airplanes) ... why would you think there might be hiring?

In my mind an "excess bid" suggests that there are too many bodies; "hiring" suggests there aren't enough bodies?

You've seen the brilliance of these big bids. They require an ability to see a year or more into the future. It's possible there will be a need for pilots before the training is done for an excess caused by a booming economy or more than forecast retirements.

A big excess bid also scares people into the FDAs. We WILL have to hire for fresh CGN FOs.

I think I've read that this is due to time limits Germany places on work visas? If so, what is that time limit? Is the number of pilots who must leave Germany per year something that you can look up internally and post for us?

The time limit is 5 years. And we're not going to hire (Fedex) for 12-18 more months after the realignment bid in March 2014. The OP of this thread needs to change his political leanings before coming purple. Good luck.

Hey, I figure people can lean whichever direction they choose, or stand on their heads for all I care. But....the holier than thou attitude doesn't go over too well with people, especially if you aren't actually dealing with the same massive tax hit that our demographic is.
