I just talked with a fleet captain a few days ago. Right now there's no hiring planned for at least a year and a half. This is always subject to change but the economy is still fragile and there have been fewer retirements than originally planned. I don't think any seats are thin right now. Things are starting to get busier with peak coming up but that will change come January.

Part of the problem is sometimes the company talks in calendar year and sometimes in fiscal year. I believe our fiscal year starts Jul 1.

May be awhile -- Figure out when the FOs need to leave CGN. We'll hire for sure then.

Thinking about coming here? Our new hires in CGN should tell us how much out of pocket to expect the first year. If you can't save it up or carry it via credit, I wouldn't accept an interview.

New hires should be getting second year NB pay for the FDAs. Especially after tolerating $2000 a month and paying for your own place during training.

Kinda hard to believe you're "the best of the best" with that kind of treatment. I'm sure it inspires a great purple koolaid drinking mindset too.

Anything new on hiring? How is staffing currently during peak?

Hate to be a bummer, but pilots will know when FedEx starts hiring when they announce interviews....and not until.

Keeping pilots "in the dark" seems to be a corporate value. Additionally, the economy is very dynamic right now. As an MD 11 FO, I've dropped a host of trips in Oct, Nov, and Dec without any issue. There may be a shortage on other seats, but I haven't seen one on my mine.

FedEx is a good job. Delta, UAL, American and US Air will hire HUNDREDS before we hire another class of 16. I'd plan accordingly...

Same experience in the Bus Albie. No problem dropping anything, no open time, BLG buy ups for months, and a shrinking fleet. If there is a 'shortage' it may be in the 75 program and related to training capacity. Lots of mouths to feed around here despite a slow decline in the total number of pilots on the property. IMO the industry has turned a corner and the business plan has responded in-kind in the interest of preserving profits.

If rumors are correct, and they should be considering our fleet plan, we will have an excess bid posting sometime in Dec for implementation starting in Jan.

The earliest I see hiring occurring is near, or after, the tail end of training generated by that bid.

Welcome to the Brown Turd World. Since UPS hasn't Hired in 7 years! That's right, 7! I feel like I'm at USAir, the last lost Decade. There has not been an upgrade Vacancy Award in years. Just Realignment after Realignment Bids. To cover for the 25 or so Retirements a year. Yes, I said 25 a year. Not a month.

Hopefully this will just be short term for you guys, not 7 years worth.
