Type Rating
Hey Guys,
I was told that the new FAA regulations are for the Captain and First officer to receive a type in the airplane they were getting their check ride. Therefore no need to continue with an ATP, just a written should be sufficient. Does anyone have the current guidelines that UPS is following.

In order to be compliant with ICAO regulations, the FAA is now issuing Type Ratings to both CA and FO's. However, in most cases the FO type rating will be restricted to "SIC Priviledges Only."
If you are applying to a company that has posted ATP as the minimum requirements for application, odds are that the new change in regulations won't change that requirement.

When there are 10,999 applicants (FedEx) and 7,999 applicants (UPS) that do have an ATP rating, I hope you have some very well connected sponsors/recs. Ok well maybe not all the applicants have ATPs but you're definitely putting yourself in a less qualified category than someone who does have an ATP. Your career, your choice.

That’s actually an “old” ICAO rule that we (the US) didn’t have to follow because for many, many years we had a waiver. However, the waiver expired and wasn’t going to be renewed so that's why the "new" rule.
All airlines are doing it now, from BE1900s to 747-400s, all FOs will be getting a SIC-privileges only Type next time they go for a training event, it’s just a matter of filling out a form.
Still not a “real” type rating. At a recent job fair, a SWA recruiter emphasized to some SWA hopefuls that if they have a B737 SIC-privileges-only type rating to answer NO to the question DO YOU HAVE A B737 TYPE RATING? on their online application!
I thought it was kind of funny, pilots will always be pilots and we’ll do whatever takes to find "an easy way out."
