Just read all 16 pages of this thread...Wow
I thought this stuff just went on 135 outfits and crappy regional airlines.
I was at one of those crappy regional outfits for a long time. I called in sick, on average, twice a year. One year, I was sitting on my fifth call in the 12 month period. On the way to the airport one morning I had an attack of explosive diarreah. I tried to make it to the terminal but couldn't.
Ended up going in my pants.
I called ops to report in sick. They told me it was my sixth call and that I might hear from the C.P. I said, "Fine, Have him call me."
Long story short....C.P. never called. This is no kidding now- I kept the messy underwear in the trunk of my airport junker for over two months as
"evidence" in case he did call. I was ready to shove them in his face and ask, "Any thing else I can do for you Sir?"

Klondike, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Then again, I completely understand your sentiment!
Honestly, FedEx pilots usually don't have to deal with this kind of garbage for the most part. This is new. My supposition is that it has something to do with trying to force people to not call in sick over peak, contract negotiations, or some management brainiac who forgot that the main thing we do is try to get the freight there on time (and not crash airplanes). They have forgotten what pilot pushing can lead to and are focusing on the wrong things. I sincerely hope that they have rethought this short sided train of thought, and have realized that yes, we are actually getting older, sicker, and are getting exhausted flying through blizzards, constant operational emergencies, and when everyone else had cancelled, we keep going. They really don't need pilots afraid to call in sick when they're feeling poorly, and they shouldn't want people more concerned about covering their butts than doing the job. I hope the temporary management insanity has subsided.

Glad to help lighten your day.
What I'm trying to figure out is how to use the story during an interview.
"So Mr Klondike, Tell me about a time when you had a crisis and how did you handle it?"

I'm with you BusDriver.. I was speaking facetiously.
Honestly, though, back to the original thread topic: I am very surprised at this kind of treatment of the pilots at FedEx. I guess I'm naive but I figured everything there was above the usual fray.
The management types will never change I suppose. The only variable is the name of the outfit.

Some of us are very surprised too. After decades of generally not being harassed and feeling respected, we find out during negotiations that apparently we really aren't anything special after all. The tactics stay the same, no matter the outfit, I guess. Periodically we go through things like this, the management type who initiates it eventually quits or gets fired, we forget about it, and then a couple of years later it happens again. If it isn't targeted at you, you often don't notice and think people are exaggerating. But here we go again, hopefully they'll realize that harassment backfires and tends to unify a group like ours.
I'm sure it will all be over soon, and we'll have something else to complain about!
