FDX - Dr. note for sick?
#141
Took a nap, so I'm good for at least one post.
Can't believe that a company with so many ex-military folks they can't figure out the increased DSA equation. If you've been in Gov't service, your know your budget $$ are only good for the current fiscal year-- you either USE IT or LOSE IT! And we became well practiced in the art of spending in September.
So, it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to apply the same principle to DSA accounts and come up with a plausible theory. If you don't use it before your exit the building, you Lose It
. So what is at stake for someone who will never get to 686 hrs? Assume 500 hour DSA @ 15year seniority: narrow body FO = $81,000 and wide body Capt = $130,000. Quite a [hidden] windfall for the company!! (Think accepted fares).
Perhaps if the company wants to solve this math problem, they should consider some type of DSA payout when you exit the building. I mean it's not too late, we are in Section 6 negotiations. Wait!-- I'm hallucinating
-- need another nap!

I'd bet if he could have gotten paid for those sick hours, he'd have actually flown his trips for his last year or two. Just saying.

I'm not so sure that paying for unused sick time is a good thing. As cheap as we are as a group, how many incredibly sick folks do you think you'll be flying with who are trying to maximize their DSA for maximum retirement buy back? I think this may be one of those issues best left alone.
Like the United captain. Just use it…when you need it.

This whole policy is an ill-advised play by the flight management cubicle farm. I wouldn't be surprised if the larger corporate entity comes asking about the flight ops spike in health care costs.
Remember, the company pays the health care costs directly. Our co-pays are a drop in the bucket. The company is paying big bucks for frivolous doctors' notes. As a shareholder or an officer I would think this looks pretty stupid.

A couple of ideas...why not just call them personal days instead of sick leave and let crew member use them as he needs...sick, schedule management, whatever. As far as using or losing, Southwest gives medical coverage for unused personal days...something like 1 month for every 10 hours left in your bank.

If I'm not qualified to determine that I'm sick and required to get a doctor's note; then it stands to reason that I'm not qualified to determine that I'm well to return to duty until I have another note from the doctor. And it usually takes several days to schedule an apointment with my doctor.

Had to call in sick while on reserve, and got leveled. However didn't receive a crew notice of the trip I was leveled for. Is this new? Also they are asking for a doctors note, is alpa wanting us to send them info on this?

You should have received a notice of trip assignment and then one for removal for sick. ALPA is tracking these. Call them and tell them the situation.
