Hmm. So you get B fund contribution of the entire vacation sellback plus the match if you retire after Dec 15th but before the 31st? That's interesting and useful information. Need to go to a seminar.

The chances of the 777 Capt's retiring are about the same as them not picking up all that open time as extra flying or flying it at draft or volunteer. I know they are working on their high five because they have not had the chance the last 20 years as WB capt's. There is more open time for them after VTO's assigned then there were for the ANC capt's before our VTO's got built. ANC open time now, only two DP pairings.
I fully expect their open time to be devoured quickly, but one can hope. There is no way they could cover that flying with reserves. The lanyards won't get us a contract, but idle 777s will....

I don't disagree at all, but I've never seen that much open time after the secondaries were built. I'm not expecting mass retirements, but I'd like to see them inquire about it. The company will see this for sure.

Busdriver, You caught my subtle note. A lot of the guys close to retirement say they are sticking around for a better contract. Well, looks like they have the power now to get one. Just need to hold out. Lets see if they put their open time where their mouth is. Unfortunately not all people with power know how to use it.

I'm not turning this into the lanyard debate, I wear mine. I'm simply saying that it gets the company's attention when freight doesn't get moved.

Oh definitely. What I'm trying to say it that it reminds ME every time I get a glimpse of it. And perhaps that helps with what max8222 was getting at.

Busdriver, The company potentially handed us a new contract with all the open time. It is up to us to decide if we want a contract. Do the senior 777 guys really want to retire with a better contract, or do they want to keep working on their high five? We will see tomorrow night.

It's actually on or after 11 Dec for MEM based. Takes about 3 weeks to process so if it's paid in Jan, it's a new year for SS tax, medicare tax, 401k stuff, etc. ANC and LAX based get paid on retirement date due to state laws.

Highly recommend the retirement seminar.
The lady that does it use to be the FedEx expert, now works for us.
Order your retirement summary to take with you. It takes 6-8 weeks to get it so plan ahead.
I think you accrue your vacation by Nov each year so having the vac payout in your last year shouldn't be a problem.

You don't have to be retiring in the immediate future to request the retirement planning package. It's always nice to know exactly where you stand, based on your previous pay and years of service, so you can (sort of) plan out how you want to spend your remaining time at FedEx, to allow you to reach your goals.
