I just read something on a different forum about the 1224 ABX EXCO has committed $500,000 to stopping the DHL bid process.
Anybody know what that money is for? I assume it is for Washington lobbyists. Hmm. That's really going to make DHL like ABX (note the sarcasm).
Anyone know where they are with the bid for the 4 planes?

Can't begin to imagine what account they'll use but you can bet the EXCO will lobby hard to get the Mediation Board to acknowledge that DHL is, in point of fact, operating as a single carrier. If successful, a strategy relying heavily on threat of whipsaw becomes senseless. Don't know what for, but DHL is configuring for growth in the NA market. There may well be many more aircraft out for bid soon. The EXCO needs a victory here or all the current bid drama gets played out again and again...

Sounds like a short term strategy to me. Sounds like the Union bosses are trying to do whatever it takes to keep this golden goose alive just long enough for them to have time to eject and deploy that golden parachute. Of course, the rest who are not close enough to retirement age get to crash and burn in the wreckage.

UPS used to contract with a bunch of different airlines for it's airlift. The government decreed that UPS had operational control over the aircraft. FAR's prohibit operational control over aircraft unless you hold an air carrier certificate. UPS was forced to operate their own airline. If that is the path the exco is pursuing, I'm impressed! They will certainly get DHL's attention.

Make no mistake, there is precedent for single carrier designation at the NLB. American and US Airways flight attendants are busy negotiating on that basis right now. If the EXCO isn't arguing DHL's obvious use of 4 U.S. operators as the workhorse of one, seamless delivery system, either they got the wrong lawyer or...or worse.

Didn't TSA try that with GoJet? They were operating out of the same offices with the same managers.
I like where you're going with it. I just don't see it happening. ABX guys need to start dealing with realities.
