No. Mediation is not binding. Arbitration is not binding. At the end of the day we can always strike to avoid PBS.

This is just a normal extension of negotiations when one side has no desire to reach an agreement.

PC states that the company's negotiating team and support personnel have been working "diligently" for more than a year and a half!

So, what were they doing during "interim negotiations"?

It is obvious from his own statements that stalling is the desired mode and it will continue as long as they can sustain it. I hope the mediator is smart enough to catch on to this!

Thanks Lag for pointing out the process. I've flown with guys who think the company can force us into PBS. From my limited knowledge, what you stated is the way I understand the contract negotiations to work. I think the only way a contract can be forced on us is if we are in bankruptcy, is that correct? So if the company can't force PBS on us, it isn't a player no matter what anyone thinks.

This followed by December vacation cancellations in most seats.

A mediator tries to facilitate an agreement between the parties. If no agreement can be reached...An offer of arbitration will take place. BOTH sides must agree to arbitration. If one side does not agree, a 30 day cooling off period will begin. At the end of that, both parties enter self help. (Or, the president can form a PEB, Presidential Emergency Board, that has 30 more days to look into it and offer non-binding solutions)

I would suggest that everyone on our seniority list needs to demonstrate to FDX that they(FDX) shouldn't want to take this to self-help. Do what our union leaders ask of us.

Yeah, I got that part. I guess I don't understand the intent of "showing FDX we don't want to take this to self-help". Probably an issue with printed statements, etc.

IMO, no extras or favors, flying the contract, informational picketing, etc. all show FDX that we have the unity required TO take this to self-help if it comes to that. Doing something to show them we don't would just be a sign of weakness.
