All this talk of uniformity got me thinking.....which is almost never a good thing! Anyway, you know what really bothers me? How we all just sort of slime up to the bus stop to head out to the jets.
We should be marching smartly from the briefing folder to the bus stop and the Captains should be reporting us in to the bus driver...." Fedex Flight XXXX all present and accounted for" would be appropriate. Then upon arrival at the jet the Captain should stand at attention at the base of the stairs and the FO should report smartly to him and "request permission to conduct a thorough preflight, top to bottom and front to rear". We would look really sharp then! I guess I shouldn't have watched that Blue Angels video the other day......:rolleyes::roll eyes: Hey, there's an idea!! Snug purple flight suits with orange trim and an orange cap.....that would be super cool!! I might put myself in for a BZ for this idea!!! |
"I'm going to guess that sometime between BM's last movement and 2016, ..........."
ROFLMAO! You guys are killing me! Just when I thought I couldn't laugh any harder at some of the hilarious quips being posted, you come up with this one liner. |
BMhasn't had a last movement in years.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but BM is leaving soon, and the leather jackets are good until 2016. I'm going to guess that sometime between BM's last movement and 2016, uniform guidance will change almost as often as our FOM (which is to say about weekly) and the net result will be no change.

Seems to me that the crew has no problem figuring out who the Capt is and who the FO is... Nor does the ramp agent, nor does the DG agent, nor does maint, nor does the pushback crew, nor does the dispatcher, nor does the DO. All the people who need to know, know. The ONLY guy who seems to have a problem figuring out who the Capt and FO are is the SCP, who evidently doesn't get out of the office often enough to know his crews OR the environment in which they work.
The 2014 winner of the Holly Graf Leadership Award (aviation) has hopefully "fired his last shot." Maybe tomorrow will be better... |

Might be just me, but I don't really care who the ramp thinks is the Capt.
Try to operate my Flights as a crew-if the FO wants to add a reasonable amount of gas-then we add the fuel. If the FO is talking to the ramp, he is doing so because I have delegated my authority for him\her to do so. I retain the responsibility, but I am not so insecure as to reject an idea simply because it comes from my FO. Again, might be just me, but absolutely every single one of my FOs has been a Capt-Somewhere |
I'm with Kronan on this. That's exactly the way I've always tried to operate. We've got some mighty fine F/O's around this place and they know their stuff. If the ramp really needs the PIC to sign something, they can usually find him in the left seat fiddling with the EFB. Or in my case, sometimes muttering to himself, "Now why did I come in here?"

Who said anything about getting rid of the parka?
From the FCIF, "We are working through the business end of a newly designed Parka with our new uniform vendor and will keep you updated on our progress." |
