Hired 2002. My guess is my original number was about 4400 (postal wave). That means about 1729 in 13 years. The last couple years have seen more retirements than the first part of my career.

The growth from 1990-2000 created a lot of captains. Seems like the seniority number to hold WB captain has been fairly static (outside HKG) since I got here, although its moved higher (more junior) a bit. Growth is where careers get made, not waiting around for retirements (unless you are hired in your 20s/30s). Hoping we get some...

I agree that growth makes things better. It seems to me that the airline has been stagnant for many years. FedEx Corp is growing but that's mainly Ground providing the growth. Express has been shrinking because I believe we had almost 4,500 pilots at one point. Maybe the TNT purchase will provide some much needed growth. I was hired May, 1996 btw.

+164 from last year.

+194 from date of hire.

Those are misleading as I was the caboose in Sep 12 at 4295. Now the total is 4171.

The important thing for me is the number of pilots below me has tripled since last year.

No DC-10s and 727s certainly eliminated a few hundred positions. Net growth might taking place with airframe numbers but with fewer pilots required.

Moved up 393 numbers in 28 years.

Doesn't tell the whole story does it?

That's it? That doesn't seem like many numbers for 28 years of work.

So were there 500 pilots at FedEx 28 years ago?
Are you silver, and only counting silver?

Seniority movement is more exciting for those hired within the last 12 years.

Anyone know why we don't have date of hire listed on our Seniority List? Both previous airlines of mine had it.

.
In November it will be 9 years since everyone 53 and older got a lump sum to help cover retirement medical insurance. That means that guys between 62 and 65 have already received help. Are you saying they need another 25k to help them out the door?
