And United Airlines edged higher with light after-hours trading volume after two shareholders, Altimeter and PAR Investment, reported activist positions in the airlines. The hedge funds now have a combined stake of 5.5 percent in United Continental, SEC filings showed.

Truth is, the job is never what we thought it would be after we worked at our company for a while. It is just a job after all. The joy of flying is long gone after you work for an airline for a year of two. Overall, if you are with a decent company, you'll make good pay, hopefully never get furloughed and have a good time flying. 99% of the guys I fly with at FX are great and that make the job great. So good luck to anyone starting out.

And Captain's should be buying all rounds, not just the first.

If you mean when they fly with a new hire on probation and first year pay, I agree. Buying an occasional dinner and picking up the bar tab is a nice way to make them feel welcome and sets a good example for their eventual upgrade.

When I'm drinking with a crew of long time Fedex pilots, I hardly expect my Captain to buy all the drinks on every layover. We're both getting the same per diem. I certainly appreciate the generosity of those Captains that do buy dinner and drinks sometimes, but it's not expected.

New Hires never buy.

Some of the wide body fo double dippers should be buying the first and last rounds.

Sounds like two great companies... On probation at US Airways I had exactly 3 captains buy me a beer....and I bought the second round. Who did you choose?

I recently had the opportunity to buy dinner for a guy on probation, and told him that if any captain didn't pay for his dinner and drinks, they were an a$$ hole. I hope that doesn't ever happen here. We are so happy to have them.

I Retired from Fedex 3 years ago.....best job I ever had and better than Delta people I know. Both are good companies.

In the end, you have to live with your decision. No one else can give you good advice. Make up your mind and do it.

Reserve sucks worse at FedEx (1 1/2 hour call out in Memphis)
As Seniority improves-can build miles to use for 1sh vacay every 12-18 months
Seldom deal with the TSA mafia or the Airport Gate lice

Delta-still lots of movement-Bonus makes the pay comparable.
Non-rev very possible, just takes some work
Better reserve system
More places to be Junior or Senior at
Economy's great, so unlikely to furlough--but bonus bucks could easily disappear and the last great economic adventure took guys out w/3-4 yrs of Seniority---don't think it's likely, but possible

Still I'd say flip a coin-Heads for FedEx and Tails for Delta. Catch it in the air and try and figure out which one you were hoping it came up as.
Very possible now.
