Lodging is on you. Nearly everybody has been able to find something less expensive than a hotel, and this class is twice as large as usual. With the offer letter, HR sent out a list of rentals - I'm guessing it's built mostly from input from previous classes.
The last official communication I received before today says the company provides initial uniforms. You're only on the hook for it if you leave within the first year.

As Reactivity said, uniforms (other than pilot shirts) are covered by the company. If you leave before your first anniversary then it comes out of your last paycheck.
Training is good. The instructors want you to succeed...nobody is trying to bust you. They sent me to MIA for sim, so I only had to get lodging in ILN for 3 weeks (indoc and systems). If they send you to DEN or MIA, they provide hotel and per diem.

Today was day 1, so it's sort of difficult to answer your first two questions. The general atmosphere, from the interview on through today, is that everybody is happy you're here, and given that we all made a conscious decision to be here, we're all pretty happy as well.
