When I try using it with guys who aren't used to the intercom, it seems to exasperate them a little, so I stop - at least until I upgrade.
How do you use the intercom on 757, we always did one ear off in training and oe...

With a rubber band. No Boeing pilots flight bag is complete without a stash of rubber bands.

Exactly.

Works best with good headsets and a windscreen on the boom mic.

I'm a retired Army Reserve Aviator, flew mostly helicopters. Hearing conservation was emphasized from day one of training. I faithfully wore earplugs for my entire career.

On the civian side, I flew CRJs for 7.5 years and wore a Telex with earplugs off and on. Then I got into Boeings in 2007 and have flown 747,757,767 where the bulk of the pilots would rather yell over the ambient noise rather use the intercom. All that effort to keep hearing loss at bay I think was squandered because of my laziness flying these planes.

Now that I'm Captain, I insist that the intercom is used. I love my Bose A20. When I take a break I don a Sony NR headset.

Thanks for your insight! Is the plug for the 67/57 a GA on the A20?

It's a Boeing aircraft, not an airbus.

Just curious if all you hot mic guys use rubber bands or other hacks when the FAA is onboard?

I prefer not using rubber bands and just key the intercom when I need to speak. I don’t want to chew or breath in someone’s ear. I have the Bose proflight and when someone uses a rubber band I get a lot of ambient noise through their mic.

Agree with the additional noise, but at least you know they’re still kicking next to you on long haul. Or you can pull the band off if they snore…Kidding, or am I?
