Last enquiry to the CP was that they are parking all the DC8s and transitioning crews to the B757.
I was told to not expect a call back "anytime soon." Of course, they may have no intention of calling me back, either.

The bidding period for the Military contracts is soon approaching. Having been at ATI and comparing it to what I know about NCR, I really think NCR has a chance of winning some (if not all) of the contracts. ATI will still have one "fuel-efficient" DC-8 out of the five current combis but that will be it without the 757(s).
I get the feeling that National has a lot less overhead then ATI. Granted they're still "hurting" from the BAX/Schanker deal but they didn't quite have it all together and it might hurt them in the end.
When I got my pink slip, there was very little talk of the 757 program/N556CM other then that the DFW FSDO was going to make ATI jump thru all the hoops again (ETOPS certification, PAX certification, etc) when they actually start the process. Almost sounds like DFW is going to "ignore" all the 767 operating experience with ETOPS, PAX, etc.

Yes once they finish the certification process since the 757 combi is a new STC, as I understand it, as there was only one factory B757 combi ever made.
The military wants more fuel efficient aircraft, hence the push by both National and ATI when the bidding starts. The DC8-62s that ATI operate do not meet the new requirements. Only the -72 (N721CX) does. The other -72 (N722CX) has been parked and was being used for parts in MCC.
