Orville,

Are you bored or did you fail out of training with Omni because it seems as if you have an axe to grind with Omni:confused:. I'm not sure if you're trying to "feel" the company out for employment but your post seem a bit jaded.

I ask the employment deal because of a NetJets post you made:

"I've applied a couple times with NJTs, 7000tt, 2300 jet , >1000 jet pic, but never selected for interview. Wondering if because I'm retired government they think I'm too old, mid 50s"

Whatever your situation best of luck in the future:cool:

Most airlines are now self study, like I said before out of 4 airlines and 7 ground schools, Omni was by far the easiest of them all. So, yea it is the students fault if he/she failed.

Don't kid yourself, they won't have a problem getting applicants until all the regionals and most of the LCCs go under.
Easiest for YOU. Everyone is different.

As the experience level of new hires decreases, HR and training departments will have to adjust, if they want to maintain the same level of new hires passing as they have had in the past.

At my airline (Atlas), the training has been adjusted substantially to accommodate the typical experience of the new hires we have been getting. It's a LOT different that even two years ago...

Current Information

First off, I want to thank you Omni guys for what you do, years ago I was one of the Army guys y'all brought home from Afghanistan, it really meant a lot to us after 15 months deployed. I am considering a move to Omni and would like to get some updated information about how things are. I understand opinions vary widely and some are quite passionate about their dislike of the company, but I am looking more for facts than a "run away, this sucks" type advice.

1. From what I gather hotels, DHs, and crew meals are not good. Are we talking motel 6 quality and worse? Are there any nice hotels? Do y'all feel safe where you stay? Is it still common to be in a middle seat on an international DH? Are the airlines reputable? Is anything being addressed in the next TA for Bussiness class travel? Are the crew meals practically the equivalent to a microwave burger from a vending machine? Is it possible to eat somewhat decent food on the airplane and on overnights (without breaking the bank).
2. If a candidate feels one airframe would fit their lifestyle better than another, is there a way to request that class or is it more take this class or leave it?
3. In regards to flights, what are the average flight lengths on each airframe? Do you require IROs on most flights? What is the longest yall fly straight without an IRO? How many hours do you average a month on each aircraft? (Previous post suggest 767- 30/hrs 777-12/hrs.....is this about right?
4. How do charts work for you guys, do you have to drag the case everywhere and do revisions?
5. How long is a typical layover and is it pretty common for the crews to do things together?
6. Typically how common is it to get the full 36 day block? For a new hire can you occasionally expect it or can it easily become a regular thing?
7. I might have missed it in the previous 150 pages, but where is new hire training and is it single occupancy?

Thanks guys for taking the time to answer our questions, I understand some have been asked before, but the industry changes everyday so I'm looking for current information. PMs are ok too, thanks guys, safe travels!

Well, crew meals are crew meals. It isn't the Ritz by any means, but they're no worse than crew meals at other airlines if they even have them.

Do y'all feel safe where you stay?

So far, no problems. Most of the hotels I've been in are "Doubletree" quality, though some overseas places are super nice and others are "boutique" style hotels.

Is it still common to be in a middle seat on an international DH? Are the airlines reputable? Is anything being addressed in the next TA for Bussiness class travel?

All my travel has been aisle seating. But, I'm fairly new, so your mileage may vary.

Again, crew meals are just that. Not a microwave burger, but nothing you'd take your girlfriend out to dinner for. At least one hotel we use you can gorge on the free breakfast and they provide snacks in the evening, so those days are virtually free.

2. If a candidate feels one airframe would fit their lifestyle better than another, is there a way to request that class or is it more take this class or leave it?

You will be assigned your fleet based on your level of experience.

3. In regards to flights, what are the average flight lengths on each airframe? Do you require IROs on most flights? What is the longest yall fly straight without an IRO? How many hours do you average a month on each aircraft? (Previous post suggest 767- 30/hrs 777-12/hrs.....is this about right?

You really can't figure an "average" in Charter. Every day is different. IROs are on most flights except domestic. Flight time on the 777 is hard to come by since there are only two airplanes.

4. How do charts work for you guys, do you have to drag the case everywhere and do revisions?

Charts are all on EFBs and updated electronically.

5. How long is a typical layover and is it pretty common for the crews to do things together?

Again, this is determined by what you're doing. They generally range from 12 hours to days on end. You can be assigned Long Call reserve overseas. With large crews, its unusual to do stuff with the whole crew but not unusual for 3 or 4 folks to go out together.

6. Typically how common is it to get the full 36 day block? For a new hire can you occasionally expect it or can it easily become a regular thing?

Very uncommon. In fact, your bid will determine that. With all the hiring going on seniority is accruing quickly.

7. I might have missed it in the previous 150 pages, but where is new hire training and is it single occupancy?

Initial Ground Training is in Tulsa. Sims are in ATL, DEN and MIA. Its all single occupancy. In Tulsa, the Company provides vans for transportation. At the Sims, the IPs will have rental cars.

Thanks guys for taking the time to answer our questions, I understand some have been asked before, but the industry changes everyday so I'm looking for current information. PMs are ok too, thanks guys, safe travels!

Feel free to PM with any other questions.

Great information, thanks for the reply! If I think of something else I'll PM you.

Zach,

Your questions are intelligent and they are exactly the ones I was asking too. If you want to talk to a relative new hire (me/6 months) about the facts, I'd be happy to. PM me. Bottom line: I haven't had to do 36 days yet. The job is fun. The hotels, travel and food have been good. I'm really enjoying it, favorite flying job to date. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with my choice to come here.

I'd be happy to answer your questions off of the forum.

Everything Packrat said is accurate except aircraft assignment. The 777 went to a high time 747 guy (makes sense) and the youngest, lowest time guy in the room. I'm pretty sure they use a Magic 8 ball! ;)

True. I guess it all depends on the crop of pilots in the individual class. I heard of one class where they had to come in and ask for a volunteer to change from the 767 to the 777.

Can someone says if 51K first year FO is correct or reality is more than that? It seems extremely low for a 767 driver
