jabr800, I too have been around the block, and I can't figure for the life of me, where some of these kids ideas are coming from. I still have 11 years to go, but already I too am beginning to think the aviation world is going down the toilet from some this crowd. Maybe this thread should have a Breathalyzer requirement. Cheers

Hey guys, so like it has been said we are lacking some info out on the street to help people decide to come to Xtra. I am a new hire and I can only speak as one but I will try my best to give helpful information.

FO pay $53 first year. The info on APC here for the pay is correct from what I can see.
So the guarantee is a small mix of depending on how many days you end up working each month.
72 hours if you work 18 days. This is the norm.
68 hours if you work 17 days
64 hours if you work 16 days.

Now the 17 and 18 days if worked on is paid at 125%
All days worked on your day off is paided at 150% on top of the guarantee.
From what I have come to understand you will be basically home based per say.

Bases are Miami, Wendover, St. Louis.

Now if you are booked to fly you will be flown out and given a hotel if it's not within 75 miles from where you live. We are doing from what it looks like and said by people we speak with are out and back trips.

The fleet is a mix of b737 400s and 800s.
4 of them are 400
3 of them are 800

All of our Training is being done on the 800 and we were told they plan to go mostly 800s. By the end of this year we will be added 1 more of each, to finish with 9 planes this year. I was personally told the plan was to add 5 more 800s to bring the number to 7 800s. As said before, everything is mere words till the plane is on the ramp. But so far everything is moving in the correct direction. Training to running pretty good, few problems due to everything being changed to the 800s. Looks to be 5 weeks long but could go longer due to Sim availability. And training is paid at $500 every 2 weeks.

We also have a newly formed Union and we are working now with a signed LOA. From what I can see on it, I feel it's a nice start to work between the company and the pilots. The company has hired a nice mix of experienced people from turbo prop guys to check airman on 747s etc. All nice and fun people I look forward to working with.

I hope I helped anyone looking into Xtra Airways.

Does a part 135 turbo prop guy have any chance of getting hired, or do they want 121 time? I have 4000TT. I live in S. Idaho, so the ENV base would be great for me. Thanks for any info.

It's hard to say. I mean there is a 135 guy in the may class and I do not believe he was a 121 guy at any point. So I guess it is possible but at the same time he was already typed in the 737. From speaking with people, the lowest TT in the classes is 2800 hours but he was a 121 guy with 1100 hours sic 121 turbo prop. The other deal could be they also needed people badly at the time so ya...so if you missed the window not sure what to tell you.

Word is they are looking to hire for a September class and are calling people now in June for interviews.

Is hotel included during training and what hotel(s) if yes? What's current time to upgrade and does it matter if you are typed and or current? Is CASS any good at Xtra? And lastly, medical/dental bennies? Thanks.

Hey Braniff, So they had us staying in the Homewoods Suites and it is paid for by the company. That pretty much seems to be the place they are having the training guys stay at unless they can't book you a room.

Its hard to throw out a time to upgrade. They told us they prefer 1000 hours in the aircraft but if they are badly needing they will go possibly as low as 500 hours depending on your exp. We are CASS and as far as i know we are good to jump on anyone but till i fully look into that i can only say what i heard on that.

It will be maybe another month or 2 before i can tell you how good the Medical is, seeing as i have to wait before i can enroll.

CASS- everyone but fedex and ups.
Medical- for a single guy $170/ month for average insurance. For a family it's pretty expensive. I don't have the exact number but I hear guys complaining about it.
Upgrade- whenever they need you. Seriously there is no set procedure other than what they decide at that moment. Time on type is HUGE. if you come in with PIC on type you'll be upgraded before anyone else regardless of seniority. Furthermore, if you come with zero experience in jets similar to 737 expect to get passed by street captains or guys below you with experience. It's just the way it is and always has been.
Hotels have always been decent to good. No complaints from me on that one.
