Thanks, a couple more questions if you don't mind.

How long to hold JFK on the 747 as FO? As CA?

What's the upgrade time on the 747?

Does the company pay for parking at your base?

What class tickets are the positive space gateway tickets?

When does your per diem start and end, at the beginning and end of Gateway travel or arriving or departing from base?

How long to hold JFK on the 747 as FO? As CA? 2.25/18 years

What's the upgrade time on the 747? 3.5 years (ANC)

Does the company pay for parking at your base? Yes but not your gateway airport

What class tickets are the positive space gateway tickets? Coach

When does your per diem start and end, at the beginning and end of Gateway travel or arriving or departing from base? Base. Time spent in gateway travel is essentially unpaid, and it can add up to several days per month for most.

The JFK 747 is shrinking, and has been for years. It would not be a surprise to anyone if it went away.

Do not go to any ACMI carrier because of their bases. One brain fart in Scheduling, one move by Marketing and the entire system can be blown up. Unlike a conventional airline, ACMI base systems are not the result of the basic structure of the business.

Even Atlas's ANC base is just one MBA thinking too much about 121.523 [heavy crew rest] away from getting a lot smaller.

This is why some form of home basing is critical in this part of the business.

Default Domicile vs gateway vs base

Can someone explain domicile vs gateway vs base at Atlas or are some of them used interchangeably? I’m trying to figure out what travel is really provided by the company to where and what has imputed taxes on it.

Other than the amount of time it takes (and I understand is unpaid and not a scheduled day) does it matter which gateway or base or whatever you are assigned to? Just for argument say I live in OKC.

How much vacation is earned for X number of years?

I have been searching, but Atlas is spread between cargo and charter and all of it is filled with rants from both sides.

And yes, I do have my app in at Omni and Kalitta.

Let’s say you live in greater Seattle, then SEA would be your gateway airport (there is a list of gateway airports). Day before work you get a ticket to whatever base you bid and receive, which is ANC for new hires. The ticket to and from ANC is considered income; if you have 2k worth of tickets+hotel a month and you grossed 75k, then you get taxed as if you grossed 94k. If you have split lines and lots of commuting then you can get slapped with a hefty tax bill.

Where is the list of gateway airports? APC only lists domiciles. I had used the example of OKC because it was not a domicile and while SEA is not, PAE is. Don’t know if that makes a difference or not for this example.

I have never seen anyone refer to Atlas as home based because of the gateways, but if my home isn’t one, it is the same as a commute to any other airline as far as I’m concerned. And then I will still be paying taxes on part of my commute.

And how much vacation do you get?

You need to get yourself to a gateway airport, the rest is on the company. PAE is a base/domicile, you would start a trip/work days from there. If you live in OKC (a gateway), then you would get travel to PAE to start your trip. This is explained more in other threads

14 days a year.

There are 85 gateway airports. There's a requirement that there be multiple airlines operating from an airport to be designated as a gateway.

Thanks. Then pretty likely my airport is. It is on the list of 100 at netjets and all the big four serve it with multiple departures each as well as more limited service with Alaska, Allegiant, Frontier and JetBlue.
